Domestic violence has become a major issue in The United State of America and is commonly associated with the mistreatment of women. There are
distinctive types of domestic violence in American's homes that affect men, women and mainly the children. This is abuse that happens in different
structures, including physical, passionate and mental. There are various instances of domestic violence in the home every year with individuals being
abusive toward their significant other, accomplice or their relatives. While there are distinctive associations, coalitions and help lines accessible to get
abused victims the support they require, why are there people not trying to benefit from their support services? There are individuals who don 't have
to deal with being in an abuse relationship and keep on doing so in any case. The main reason people always asking domestic violence victims which is
mainly women is why do you stay? In three main points we will look at the reason why women stayed in and abuse relationship, from the author

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a
great threat endangering the lives of thousands of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live in
a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out. We know it's happening, and even hear or see the
events. But who's taking action?
I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just
a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle,
and a step to save our nation.
And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make
a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you to do the same.
I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since, knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A
few years back, I was catching up with a family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just
brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she
still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem
happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under
the case of domestic abuse.
Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself. Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this
day, I still can't even begin the fathom how anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant other and
act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live

Sarah and Matt have been experiencing intimate partner violence, this isn't physical it is emotional. Whenever they get in a little argument that
eventually escalates into a bigger argument Sarah pulls the "I moved and quit my job for you "card. By Sarah saying that she is manipulating Matt

escape abusive situations. Past maltreatment could range from physical violence to psychological or even financial control. AOTA (2011) defines
domestic violence as: "pattern of coercive behavior designed to exert power and control over a person in an intimate relationship through the use of
intimidating, threatening, harmful, or harassing behavior." Oftentimes, there have been several layers of abuse happening simultaneously. While
residents who end up at shelters have typically lived through traumatic experiences, their specific ordeals and personal reactions to them will vary. The
people seeking shelter are survivors who have taken the first step towards changing their lives for the better or people in the middle of crisis. There are
a plethora of psychosocial and mental health concerns for women's shelters populations. These identified general areas of occupational impairment
include: daily life activities, work performance, home management, parenting, and leisure participation; cognitive functioning including
decision–making, judgment, problem–solving, and following directions; money management, task initiation, self–confidence, coping skills, stress
management, and interpersonal relationships (AOTA, 2011) as well as the effects of traumatic experiences on mental health and independent living
