endevour uplift on cabs for the new G Fast Broadband on the BDUK
Contract. Copper cable installation.
CARILLION TELENT
Delivery Manager October 2011- September 2013
My role at Carillion Telent involved the management of the North West
region for Heavy Cable Recovery, circa £5m of activity per year. The
role involved full responsibility of the activities of five subcontractors,
2. including: mobilisation; operational management; quality; and health &
safety.
Key achievements include:
Development and delivery of an agreed programme of activity to
ensure demanding targets are delivered - 7000 tons pulled and
192 jobs closed over the past five months.
Monitoring, key costs, budgets and forecasts. A particular
example being the management of specific cost programmes for
day-rate gangs and surveying teams who were brought in to hit
the end of year target.
Full mobilisation of a number of new contractors, in order to hit
increased targets for gangs on the park at the same time as
existing contractors were being removed for cable damages.
Comprehensive H+S, audit and quality check programme to
ensure compliance to CT/ BT requirements, this includes: MUA
Audits; Accident/ Damage investigations; Gate Checks; and 700
series checks.
Creation of strong relationships with contractor management
and operatives in order to ensure delivery of work and provision
of timely/ correct information to CT/ BT.
Regular engagement with Openreach to ensure information on
damages and delivery are communicated in an effective
manner.
Careful management of fluid work and survey resource with
contractors to deliver strong tonnage despite a lighter workstack
– North West currently 56% over target for Q1 2013/14.

In this role I provided supervision to direct labour cable recovery gangs
in the North West. The role required a clear focus on detail
management, the ability to elicit information from a wide range of
internal and external stakeholders, and the production of clear
programming to ensure target delivery.
3. Key Achievements included:
Detailed programming of jobs to ensure the most efficient
use of resource in order to meet production targets.
Managing the completion and audit of recovery paperwork
particularly the detailed reconciliation of cable weights
against timesheets.
Direct supervision of gangs on site including health & safety
and quality checks.
Creation of strong external relationships e.g. council/
highways staff regarding traffic management and working
hours.

In this role I provided supervision to direct labour jointing gangs. I also
played a key role in developing the supervisory duties for cable
recovery gangs to facilitate Skanska’s move onto the BT Cable
Recovery Contract.

Supervising copper cable jointers, ensuring activities were
delivered on time and to the correct standard.
Supervising the installation and jointing of BFT
Developing the duties and responsibilities for supervisors of
cable recovery gangs
Checking quality health and safety and performance.
