Should cigarette smoking be banned?
Smoking is an expensive habit. People who smoke cigarettes can spend as much as $2,500 a year on them (Singletary). Smoking is a practice in which
a substance, most commonly tobacco or cannabis, is burned and the smoke is tasted or inhaled. The most common method of smoking today is through
cigarettes. Cigarettes remain primarily industrially manufactured, but they can be hand–rolled from loose tobacco and paper. Today we are more aware
on how bad smoking is for our well–being. Smoking causes health problems, negative effects on physical appearance, and reduces athletic
performance. Smoking should be banned because it has been revealed to be harmful to the human body.

Smoking restricts blood vessels, which prevents oxygen and nutrients from getting to the skin. This is why smokers often look pale and unhealthy.
Smokers may notice the top layer of their hair are quite brittle. This causes them to break off before they are fully grown and is most likely because
they are malnourished (dailymail). Cigarettes leave smokers with a disorder called halitosis, or obstinate bad breath. The smell of musty smoke tends
to linger for days. The smell of smoke will not only remain on people's clothing, but in their furniture, car, and hair. This is an unpleasant smell to be
around, and is often hard to get the smell of the smoke out. No one likes the smell of cigarettes in their house or on their clothes, therefore you will
constantly be masking the smell.
Lastly, sure, smoking is bad for you. But what happens when you combine it with an eight mile race? Do you get a healthier smoker? Or an unhealthy
athlete? Smoking can heavily impacts an athlete's performance. Smokers who smoke regularly have a hard time competing with non–smokers. The
physical effects of smoking are rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and decreased circulation weaken athletic performance. One of the main impacts of
smoking while staying physically fit, is a decrease in lung function. For athletes, this means a decline in stamina and performance, as muscles that get
inadequate oxygen become weary more rapidly. As their muscles and heart demand more oxygen that their lungs
