2. WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Orlando is without a doubt one of the most popular holiday destinations in the
world and is famed for having the Disney effect, where adults and children alike
can have their dream vacations enjoying theme parks big and small.
Outside the theme park mania, Orlando is a major city in the state of Florida. The
city has many attractions to keep you entertained for the entirety of your stay,
which may not be enough to fully soak up all Orlando has to offer.
Snorkel in the natural springs at De Leon Springs State Park or you can go tubing
at Kelly Park. For fun on dry land, go horseback riding.
Orlando also has an active and sophisticated cultural scene on offer. From the
Cornell Fine Arts Museum featuring works from Picasso to performing arts at Mad
Cow Theatre, the art scene has something for everyone.
3. ATTRACTIONS
We’ve selected our top 5 things to see and do in Orlando:
Magic Kingdom: Enter the fantasy world of Disney at Magic Kingdom and watch your favourite films come to
life with character meet and greets, dinner shows and rides for small and big kids.
Animal Kingdom: With the tree of life at the centre, Animal Kingdom is full of exotic animals and adventures
ranging from It’s Tough to be a Bug! to the Kali River Rapids.
Universal Studios: Walk into some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters at Universal Studios with 3D rides
and working film sets. Rollercoaster fans cannot miss the Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket or Revenge of the
Mummy rides.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: While technically part of the Universal Studios group, The Wizarding
World of Harry Potter is a theme park in itself.
Shopping: Shopping fans will be in their element in Orlando, especially at The Mall at Millenia, with Orlando
home to many malls and boutiques
4. WEATHER
Known as the ‘sunshine state’, Orlando tends to have year round sunshine with
consistently mild weather. The driest period is between October to May, and the
average annual temperature is 23°C.
With humidity and rainfall at its lowest, April can be a terrific time to visit Orlando,
especially as the summer tourism at theme parks is reduced.
The summer sun may appeal to some, but winter is generally the best season to
stay in Orlando with temperatures rarely dropping below 20°C and the risk of
extreme weather greatly reduced
5. CLOTHING
With the travelling from theme park to theme park, it is advisable to wear
comfortable, light weight clothing. At night warmer jackets and jeans are
appropriate clothing as the day cools down and you begin to relax.
If you’re going on water rides at theme parks, you will get wet! Make
sure you’re prepared to dry off your clothes or pack a dry set. You may
want to invest in a Pac-a-Mac sold at all the resorts.
6. IDEAL FOR…?
Orlando is undeniably a fantastic family attraction for families of
all sizes and ages. Whoever said theme parks were age
restricted though – it is a great break with mates and couples can
enjoy an alternative holiday to sitting on the beach.
There is obvious appeal to adrenaline seekers but Orlando’s
cultural activities and shopping means there truly is something
for everyone
