INTRODUCTION:
Microsoft Word is a graphical word processing program allows users to type and
save documents. Along with this, it also provides tools to insert pictures, edit
photos, draw objects etc. It can be said that there is a range of options available in
Microsoft Word.
Perhaps no other computer software has as great impact on education as
Microsoft word. Not only does Microsoft word offer high versatility and flexibility, it
also is "model-free" instructional software; that is, it reflects no particular
instructional approach. A teacher can use it to support any kind of directed
instruction or constructivist activity. Since its value as an aid to teaching and
learning is universally acknowledged, Microsoft word has become the most
commonly used software in education. It offers many general relative advantages
to teachers and students.
GENERAL EDUCATONAL USES OF MICROSOFT WORD
Microsoft Word used for many educational purposes. Apart from teaching-learning
it can be used for more general intentions that help in general education. Work
done on Microsoft Word and saved on the internet is highly portable and accessible
from any computer with internet access. One can easily type resume, essay, letter,
reports, articles, brochure, reflective diary etc. by using pre-defined templates
available in Microsoft Word.
USES OF MICROSOFT WORD FOR TEACHERS:
Microsoft Word is one of the most commonly used word processing tools by
teachers. Word is used for many purposes including creating worksheets and

notes, letters, memos and permission slips, student reports and to compile school
newsletters or newspapers. There are some uses like:
1. Lesson Plan: Through Microsoft Word teachers can
plan their lessons. Teacher can make lesson plans
depending upon the curriculum used in the class, may
be weekly, monthly, semester wise or annually.
2. Making Test Papers: Teachers can also use Microsoft Word for evaluation
purpose and can make test and exam papers.
3. Reflective Diaries: By using Microsoft Word,
teachers can make a reflective diary of the classroom
daily proceedings. It can cover student’s performance
either curricular or extra-curricular, attendance
compilation, quizzes data and other work.
4. Students Worksheets: By assigning different work to students will be
handy but by the help of Microsoft Word, teachers can keep a record of
worksheet of each student’s profile.
5. Reports: Teachers can write annual reports by using Microsoft Word.
6. Attendance List: Teacher can make attendance lists monthly or annually
easily on Microsoft Word.
USES OF MICROSOFT WORD FOR STUDENTS:
Microsoft word is very helpful software for students, it helps to transmit educational
materials and practice systematically in school and university faster with higher
quality.

1. Assignments: Students can make their assignments by
using Microsoft word. They can also insert related picture
and diagrams in assignments.
2. Making Notes: Students can make Class notes on Microsoft Word, they will
not require new notebooks, and they can add the material in the same file as
much they want.
3. Using Dictionary: Microsoft Word offers dictionary as
well, student can expand their vocabulary by using
dictionary available in the software. There is no need to
leave the software for consulting dictionary.
4. Project: Students can make project on Microsoft Word, there are tools
available to make figures, and they can also merge the file with excel and do
the calculating work as well.
5. Spelling and Grammar: Microsoft Word offers specialized
tools for formatting documents in various ways; perform
spelling and grammar check to produce standard and error-
free document.
6. Thesaurus: Students can use thesaurus for appropriate synonyms to
replace repetitive words or phrases. So, the work would be more effective.
USES OF MS WORD IN TEACHING-LEARNING PROCESS
Microsoft Word has become the most commonly used software in education. It
offers many general relative advantages to teachers and students for teaching-
learning process. Teacher can make learning process very effective.

1. Checking: Teacher can check assignments submitted by
students by using tack changing option in review. So, the
students will be able to know easily their mistakes.
2. Presentation: Teachers can present their lessons by Microsoft Word; so,
they can skip writing on blackboard and can more concentrate on teaching, it
will enhance the teaching-learning process.
3. Visual Charts: Teacher can turn data into visual charts
by using smart art, so the pupil would understand more
clearly the concepts.
4. Sharing Document: The teacher can send an email
containing notes to the whole class by using mail merge.
5. Concept Map: Teachers can make students
understand the new concept by using concept map, so
the student would be able to understand the different
aspects of the concept at a time.
USES OF MICROSOFT WORD RESEARCH
Microsoft Word has a curated list of trusted sources and reference materials which
is very useful for research purposes. Microsoft Word offers many options that used
for research and thesis writing.
1. Editor: Microsoft Word editor feature edit the word automatically which has
written wrong. It also suggests improving writing by flagging words that are
used too frequently.

2. Error Free Document: Microsoft Word has grammar and spell check
feature, it teaches words or phrases to improve writing style. So, one can
improve his/her research writing style.
3. Effective Work: If the research will be in typed form, it will be more
effective than hand written work.
4. Researcher: The Researcher tool in Microsoft Word gives opportunity to
explore online information without leaving the document. One can explore
and research the material related to the content and adds it with citations in
the document without leaving it.
5. Bibliography: Microsoft word offers a very useful option for research
purpose that is reference, by using it one can insert bibliography in an
organised form.
6. Publishing: After completing the typing of thesis a
person who is doing research can easily publish
his/her work without doing efforts.
7. Project Proposal: Researcher can propose their research or project
proposals by using Microsoft Word, there are also templates available for this
purpose.
