Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode is an autonomous public business school located in Calicut, Kerala. The institute, set up in 1996 by the Government of India in collaboration with the State Government of Kerala, is one of the 20 Indian Institutes of Management. The panoramic view from the hilltop is a visual delight and conducive for learning and contemplation. The topographical character of the site has been instrumental in determining the location of the academic and residential area. They each occupy the summits of the two hillocks. Spread on two hills with the buildings blending in the lush greenery with a mix of traditional Kerala style ethnic architecture with modern amenities The design incudes the water management by using techniques like rain water harvesting ,creation of ponds for rain water and retained some of the older gullies which acted as STORM WATER DRAINAGE . Integration of indoor and outdoor spaces in the campus Some times there is tendency to lose a sense of unity or lose track of direction but architect has carefully and efficiently incorporated various entities in the site The vernacular elements have been refined according to the context never failing to provide the required level of modern amenities. Because of the terrain, there is a play of level differences In spite of large amount of trees and vegetation their is a variety of beautiful and aesthetic plants and trees All the buildings are oriented to a central court - typical “naalukettu” of Kerala’s traditional architecture giving a sense of unity Integration of indoor and outdoor spaces in the campus Some times there is tendency to lose a sense of unity or lose track of direction but architect has carefully and efficiently incorporated various entities in the site The vernacular elements have been refined according to the context never failing to provide the required level of modern amenities. Lawrence Wilfred "Laurie" Baker (2 March 1917 – 1 April 2007) was a British-born Indian architect, renowned for his initiatives in cost-effective energy-efficient architecture and designs that maximized space, ventilation and light and maintained an uncluttered yet striking aesthetic sensibility. Influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and his own experiences in the remote Himalayas, he promoted the revival of regional building practices and use of local materials; and combined this with a design philosophy that emphasized a responsible and prudent use of resources and energy. He was a pioneer of sustainable architecture as well as organic architecture, incorporating in his designs even in the late 1960s, concepts such as rain-water harvesting, minimizing usage of energy-inefficient building materials, minimizing damage to the building site and seamlessly merging with the surroundings. Due to his social and humanitarian efforts to bring architecture and design to the common man, his honest use of materials, his belief in simplicity in design and in life, and his staunch Quaker belief in non-violence, he has been called the "Gandhi of architecture".[1] He moved to India in 1945 in part as an architect associated with a leprosy mission and continued to live and work in India for over 50 years. He became an Indian citizen in 1989 and resided in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala from 1969 and served as the Director of COSTFORD (Centre of Science and Technology for Rural Development), an organisation to promote low-cost housing.Baker was born into a staunch Methodist family, the youngest son of Birmingham Gas Department's chief accountant, Charles Frederick Baker and Millie Baker. His early schooling was at King Edwards Grammar School. His elder brothers, Leonard and Norman studied law, and he had a sister, Edna who was the oldest of them all. In his teens Baker began to question what religion meant to him and decided to become a Quaker, since it was closer to what he believed in. Baker studied architecture at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Birmingham, and graduated in 1937, aged 20, in a period of political unrest in Europe.Throughout his practice, Baker developed a signature style in designing and building low cost, high quality, beautiful homes, with a great portion of his work suited to or built for lower-middle to lower class clients. He derived creatively from pre-existing local culture and building traditions while keeping his designs minimal with judicious and frugal use of resources.[13] [14] His buildings tend to emphasise prolific – at times virtuosic – masonry construction, instilling privacy and evoking history with brick jali walls, a perforated brick screen which invites a natural air flow to cool the buildings' interior, in addition to creating intricate patterns of light and shadow. Another significant Baker feature is irregular, pyramid-like structures on roofs, with one side left open and tilting into the wind. Baker's designs

Herbal medicine has a history that goes back as far as 60,000 years ago. In the last few decades, orthodox medicine has replaced herbal medicine use claiming to provide more effective and guaranteed results. This decade, however, witnesses the drawback of this intruder and hope in natural medicine has gained a spot in the hearts and minds of the new generation of Jordan (where this project is situated) and worldwide alike. The project and its site will provide anticipated success because Jordan only awaits such an opportunity: all its conditions have ever been ready: only now has architecture to carve itself through the therapeutic mountain hills. the project aims to de-institutionalize healing and provide a new healing process where the concept of the building will lead the health-seeker through series of experiences and events only to tranquilize and balance physical and mental imbalances. Healing by landscape is no new concept but it can be implemented in many ways; here the healing gardens are made directly accessible from site entrance to those who seek relief from any tension, tranquilizing and depression and garden workshops are made available for user gardening to work in the gardens, plant their own herbs to use later for self-therapy. The project’s tectonic plates split through the mountain as to reveal the herbal bounties within, open up for healing spaces and activities and provide panoramic platforms for the spectacular views to Jordan’s most green city. The project integrates with the site’s contour and context, the building’s needs and functions and provides a strong image for the re-birth of herbal medicine in its ancient context. The theme of carving surfaces within the mountain’s slope to create a direct relationship with nature – a biophilic approach to bond people with their origin, love nature for what it provides and ensure that all traditional and natural experiences will be repeated so that the people find themselves healing themselves indirectly and happily

The Kailasha or Kailashanatha temple at the Ellora Caves in Aurangabad District, Maharashtra, India, is the biggest of the rock-cut Hindu temples. Because of its height, construction, and sculptural treatment, this megalith carved from a rock cliff face is regarded as one of the most amazing cave temples in the world and "the apex of the rock-cut period of Indian architecture." Even though the rock face slopes downward from the back to the front of the temple, the top of the superstructure above the sanctuary is 32.6 meters (107 feet) above the court level below. It is thought by archaeologists to be made of a single rock. A megalith carved from a rock cliff face, it is considered one of the most remarkable cave temples in the world because of its size, architecture and sculptural treatment, and "the climax of the rock-cut phase of Indian architecture.

This paper "Beyond the Codes: Repositioning Towards a Sustainable Development," presented in 2013, underscores the crucial role of effective communication in driving sustainability within engineering practice. While traditional engineering approaches have relied heavily on codes of measurement and standardization to ensure safety and efficiency, the paper argues for a fundamental repositioning of engineering towards sustainability. This repositioning, depicted as going "beyond the codes," urges engineers to integrate sustainability principles into their work. Engineers must recognize that sustainability encompasses environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic prosperity, transcending mere compliance with technical standards. This broader mandate requires engineers to engage in dialogue with diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and communities. Effective communication becomes paramount in fostering collaboration and garnering support for sustainable initiatives. Moreover, engineers must embrace a new mindset that positions sustainability as a core aspect of their profession. They must advocate for sustainability within their organizations, challenging existing norms, and championing innovative solutions. This shift in perspective requires engineers to become proficient communicators, capable of articulating the value proposition of sustainability to various audiences. Internal communication within engineering firms is equally vital, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Engineers must share knowledge, expertise, and best practices to accelerate the adoption of sustainable technologies and practices. Visual communication tools, such as data visualization, can aid in conveying complex technical information effectively. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes that effective communication is essential for repositioning engineering towards sustainability. By embracing communication as a core competency and championing sustainability, engineers can navigate the complexities of the 21st century and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

Software developers are intended to be massive, highly leverageable value creators for their companies and teams - using their creative and technical talent to build products themselves or mission-critical systems that facilitate the delivery of value inside the business. The blunt truth, however, is that many software developers would screw up tying their own shoes when left to their own devices. There's an abundant corpus of work out there on how managers routinely let down their software developers through insufficient planning, communication, listening, and support. In this talk we're going to explore the inverse - how individual software developers contributing to a project unintentionally sabotage their teams, their companies, their projects, and themselves through: * Immutable technical preferences + biases; * Bad attitudes; * Poor listening; * Inflexible and unproductive learning styles; * Risk aversion; * Incuriosity; * And more! Most importantly, in this talk we're going to try to address how we can help shift developers who want to learn and improve, but are have trouble executing, become the high value contributors they'd like to be.

Your voice, smiling, facial expressions, body language, and genuine Hospitality are tightly connected. Always strive to be a Hospitality service professional. The importance of Smiling is vital in the hospitality industry. People who were or are being raised and educated on digital devices have not had the opportunity to learn and use the necessary and multiple communication skills the way previous generations did. It's a lost art that needs to be presented to the generations that followed the Baby Boomers. These are the generations alive today: Generation X, Generation Y (Millennials), Generation Z, and Generation Alpha.
