3. Fingerprints
Main Features
Minutiae
• Fingerprinting first created by Dr. Henry
Fault, British surgeon in 1882
• Finger skin is made of friction ridges which
make different pattern in each individual
Roller finger
Static sensing
Sweep reading
Acquiring Fingerprints Methods
6. Matching Technique
• Minutiae based algorithm detect
different minutiae like delta, pores etc. it
is difficult to detect
• some algorithm use shapes of ridges
after dividing image in smaller cells.
Ridges direction, phase and pitch are
extracted
• Correlation based algorithm follow
pattern o the ridges of the template to
support or reject the fingerprint
• some algorithm imply features such as
ridge count and distance
7. Biometrics
• Biometrics refers to automatic identification of people based on their distinctive
physiological and behavioral characteristics
• Biometrics is enabling technology make our society safar, reduce fraud and lead to
user convenience
Five elements of
biometrics
