9. 1.Heading
o Heading is a metalworking process which is also called
cold forging process.
o It is often performed in the cold state, resulting in
cold working.
o This operation typically produced raw balls.
o This operation is performed on the national
header Germany.
11. 2.Flashing
o Flashing machine is used to remove the
burrs or uneven surfaces.
o There are two cast iron steel plates with grooves.
o The raw balls are rotating in the grooves and
removes the burrs.
13. 3.Soft Grinding (G-1)
Flashing Soft Grinding
o The grinding wheel of grade-100 is used to finish the
surface up to (100±10µm) material is removed.
o The rotational speed is 90±10 rpm.
o Coolant used is Maxi grind(2-3%) with water.
14. 4.Heat treatment
o Heat Treatment of Steel can be heat treated to produce a great variety of
microstructures and properties.
Furnaces widely used in heat treatment:-
Fig :- Chugairo furnace japan
15. 4.Heat treatment continue………
Parts of chugairo furnace:-
Prewashing tank
Hardening furnace
Quenching oil tank
Cooling and washing tank
Tempering furnace
17. 5.Tumbling
o Metal tumbling is used to burnish, deburr, clean,
radius, de-flash, descale, remove rust, polish,
brighten, surface harden, prepare parts for further
finishing, and break off die cast runners.
o The process is fairly simple: a horizontal barrel is filled
with the parts which is then rotated
18. 6.Hard grinding(G-2)
o The grinding wheel of grade-300 is used to finish the
surface up to(10±1µm) material is removed.
o The rotational speed is 90±5 rpm.
o Coolant used is Maxi grind(2-3%) with water.
19. 7.Finish Grinding(G2)
The grinding wheel of grade-1000 is used to
finish the surface up to(100±10µm) material is
removed.
The rotational speed is 70±5 rpm.
Coolant used is MTO.
20. 8.Rough lapping(L1)
The grinding wheel of grade-3000 is used to
finish the surface up to(1±.25µm) material is
removed.
The rotational speed is 30±5 rpm.
Coolant used is HONILO 981.
21. 9.Super finishing(L2/3)
The grinding wheel of grade-6000 is used to finish
the surface up to(1±.25µm) material is removed.
The rotational speed is 10-25 rpm.
Coolant used is HONILO 981.
