3. 1.INTRODUCTION
National Engineering Industries ltd. manufactures a wide range of bearings for
automotive and railway industry as well as or general industrial application under the
brand name NBC. NEI, founded in the year 1946 as a pioneer industry in the field of
bearing manufacture, now manufactures nearly 150 Million Bearings per annum in
over 1000 different sizes ranging from 25 mm bore to 1300 mm outer diameter having
capability to manufacture bearing up to 2000 mm. diameter.
4. A bearing is a machine element that constrains relative motion to only the desired
motion, and reduces friction between moving parts.
2.BEARINGS
5. The common ball or roller bearing have the several parts.
3.COMMON BEARING PARTS
6. NEI manufactures bearings in about 1000 different sizes. The size of bearings
manufactured by NBC ranges from 25 mm to 1.3 metre Outer Diameter.

2.Tapered roller bearings
3.Spherical roller bearing
4.Cylindrical roller bearing
4.PRODUCTS
7. A ball bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain the
separation between the moving parts of the bearings - the inner and outer part of the
bearings. The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support
radial and axial loads.
4.1 BALL BEARING
8. Taper Roller bearings are generally separable, which means the cone assembly,
consisting of the inner ring with roller and cage, can be mounted separately from the
cup (outer ring). Being separable, mounting becomes easier. These bearings are mainly
used in Wheels, Transmissions and Axle Centres of Passenger Cars, MUVs, Trucks,
Tractors, Earthmovers, etc.
4.2 TAPERED ROLLER BEARING
9. Spherical roller bearings are self-aligning bearings designed for heavy radial loading.
They automatically compensate for large angular errors (shaft misalignments).
Spherical roller bearings are particularly suitable for carrying heavy loads. They are
commonly found in Industrial Gear boxes, Conveyors, Cement Grinding Rolls,
Sugarcane crushers and passenger coach axle boxes of Railways.
4.3 SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARING
10. The cylindrical roller bearings have greater radial load capacity than ball bearings of
same external dimensions and are particularly suitable for arduous duties. These
bearings have a high radial load capacity and are suitable for high speeds.
4.4 CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARING
11. Almost all parts of all ball bearings are made of steel. Since the bearing has to stand up
to a lot of stress, it needs to be made of strong steel. There such process are followed
by nbc in bearing production.
5. MANUFACTURING PROCESS
1. Heat Treatment
2. Rough grinding
3. Honing & super grinding
4. Washing & phosphate coating
5. Assembly
12. The rough cut races are put into a heat treating furnace at about 1,550 degrees
Fahrenheit (843 degrees Celsius) for up to several hours (depending on the size of the
parts), then dipped into an oil bath to cool them and make them very hard.
5.1 HEAT TREATMENT
13. After the heat treatment process, the races are ready for finishing. However, the races
are now too hard to cut with cutting tools, so the rest of the work must be done with
grinding wheels. Almost every place on the race is finished by grinding, which leaves a
very smooth, accurate surface.
5.2 ROUGH GRINDING
There are three type of rough grinding:
1. OD grinding
2. Face grinding
3. Bore grinding
14. Honing & super grinding is an abrasive machining process that produces a
precision surface on metal work piece by scrubbing an abrasive stone against it along a
controlled path. Honing is primarily used to improve the geometric of surface.
5.3 HONING & SUPER GRINDING
15. After the honing & super finishing process the bearing components are wash with
water and then these parts pass through the phosphate tank for installing a phosphate
layer on bearing. For these points we are done phosphate coating:
5.4 WASHING & PHOSPHATE COATING
• Corrosion resistance
• Lubricity
• Foundation for subsequent coating or painting
16. The cone, rollers and cage assembly is perfectly matched to ensure long service life.
Assembly configurations is similar to standard single row tapered roller bearing. Both
cone and rollers are manufactured from bearing quality case hardened steel.
