4. Synopsis
This project has been created based on case study given by the
college to design a Accountant table for office. According to the
need of client I design the table in contemporary style. This
project has been created under the guidance of Ms. Divya
Sharma. I am very thankful to Dezyne E’cole college.
5. About Me
I am an interior designing student from Beawar and currently
studying at Dezyne E’cole college, Ajmer. I have a great interest
in design.
After school I started my study of Interior design at Dezyne
E’cole college and complete my degree in 2018. Although I learn
a lot and liked what I did. As a designer I like to work visual:
sketching, abstract art, models and making 3D rendering. I am
not only interested in visual work, but my interest is in challenge
base working and complete design process.
I work on case study given by the college. This is my product
design case study in which I design a library reference table for
school library.
Beside my interest in designing field I also like art, games,
travelling, sketching.
6. My Vision on Design
I believe that the visual aspect of design is an important factor,
because it can help to attract people and let them be attached
to the product. The form can help the user operating the
product, so I agree with the statement form follows function.
The visual language of a product can show the identity and
vision of the designer and/or company which can be related to a
certain experience.
It is important that products are designed with the user central
during the design process. A user should have a positive mood
when using a product, which can be achieved when the user can
easily operate a product without errors. The design should
adjust itself to the users. The design should be functional and
comfortable. The design is more user-focused but still available
to different kinds of users.
Sustainability is an important aspect these days. It is important
to be eco-effective during the whole design process. I really like
the idea behind cradle-to-cradle where a product, parts or
materials can be reused after usage without down cycling them.

8. You interact with commercial interiors everyday, stopping at a
fast-food restaurant for a quick lunch or studying for a test at
the library. Perhaps you visit a textile showrooms to pick up
samples for project or join a friend at an athletic club to work
out. May be you pick up your child at a day-care centers. All
these facilities and may others represent the kind of interior
spaces created by the division of the interior design profession
commonly called commercial interior design.
Designing commercial interiors involves designing the interior of
any facility that serves business purpose. Facilities that fall
under the category of commercial interior design include
businesses that invite public in such as those mentioned above.
Other restrict public access but are business enterprises such as
corporate offices or manufacturing facilities. Commercial
interiors are also part of publicly owned facilities such as
libraries, court houses, government offices and airport
terminals, to name a few.

Introduction of Commercial Design
10. Product design is to create a new product to be sold by business
to its customers. It is essentially the efficient and effective
generation and development of ideas through a process that
leads to a new products.
Product design as a noun- the set of properties of an artifact,
consisting of the discrete properties of the form and the
function together with the holistic properties of the integrated
form and function.
Product design process- the set of strategic and tactical
activities, from idea generation to commercialization, used to
create a product design. In a systematic approach, product
designers conceptualize and evaluate ideas, turning them into
tangible inventions and products. The product designer’s role is
to combine art, science, and technology to create new products
that people can use. Their evolving role has been facilitated by
digital tools that now allow designers to communicate, visualize,
analyze and actually produce tangible ideas in a way that would
have taken greater manpower in the past.
Product design is sometimes confused with industrial design,
and has recently become a broad term inclusive of service,
software, and physical product design. Industrial design id
concerned with bringing artistic form and usability, usually
associated with craft design and ergonomics, together in order
to mass- produced goods. Other aspects of product design
include engineering design, particularly when matters of
functionality or utility are at issue, through such boundaries are
not always clear.
Introduction of Product Design
11. Product design and development
Product development, also called new product management, is
a series of steps that include the conceptualization, design,
development and marketing of newly created or newly
rebranded goods and services. The objective of product
development is to cultivate, maintain and increase a company’s
market share by satisfying a consumer demand. Not every
product will appeal to every customer or client base, so defining
the target market for a product is a critical component that
must take place early in the product development process.
Product development frame work
Although product development is creative, the discipline
requires systematic approach to guide the processes that are
required to get new product to market. Organizations such as
the product development and management association [PDMA]
and the product development institute [PDI] PROVIDE guidance
about selecting the best development frame work for a new
product and service. A framework helps structure that actual
product development.
Identification of design criteria involves brainstorming possible
new products. Once an idea has been identified as a prospective
product, a more formal product development strategy can be
applied.
Idea analysis involves a clo9ser evolution of the product
concept. Market research and concept studies are undertaken
to determine if the idea is feasible or within a relevant business
context to the company or to the customer.
Concept genesis involves turning an identified product
opportunity into a tangible concept.
12. Prototyping involves creating a rapid prototype for a product
concept that has been determined to have business relevance
and value. Prototyping in this front-end context means a ‘’quick-
and-dirty’’ model is created, rather than the refined product
model that will be tested and marketed later on.
Product development involves ensuring the concept has passed
muster and has been determined to make business sense and
have business value.
13. Dimensional requirements
Designing office space requires attention to the proper arrangement of
individual and group workstation must be taken into account, i.e. the
possibility of free access of worker to workstations. Office space is a
social and group space; it needs to be remembered that the adaptation
of workstation in an office was conductive to proper cooperation
between design teams and members of these teams. Depending on the
purpose, office furniture id designed for individual office work,
construction and designing works, the work of groups and problem
teams, call center, training tasks, conferences, individual and collective
customer service.
Due to different purposes, each of the given types of furniture is
characterized by different design solutions which ensure mobility or
stability, variability of geometry and dimensions, sufficient stiffness, and
strength.
When designing office furniture, it is assumed that the workstation
should be adjusted in terms of space to the dimensions of 90 percent of
the adult population of both men and women. The minimum dimensions
assumed are those which are not achieved by 5 percent of population,
while the maximum dimensions are those which 95 percent of the
population dose not exist.
For tables, the recommended optimum surface of the workspace amount
to 0.96 m2. most commonly, this requirement is met by using rectangles
of the dimensions 120 x 80 cm or 60 x 90cm. When the table is equipped
with drawers, their runners must have stops which secure them from
falling out, as well as preventing the simultaneous opening of several
drawers. An important feature of tables is the possibility of regulating the
height of the worktop. Along with a proper chair, this regulation helps to
configure a comfortable workstation. Currently, it is expected to allow
regulation of this height from 68cm to 90cm.
Requirements for Office furniture
14. Specific quality characteristics attributed to this group of furniture, which
distinguish them from other types, are conditioned by the nature of use
and certain external factors, which in the practice of approval tests is
called exposures and operational loads of the furniture. In considering
the movable element, e.g. a drawer of an office container, we shall notice
that what requirements it must meet. These include the following-
capacity adapted to the overall dimensions of the folder or binder, the
presence of staples for documents or dividers, the amplitude of
extension much larger than the dimension of its depth, which is
connected with the necessity of installing special types of runners with a
large vertical load indicator and multiple extension range.
Modern office furniture has a very complex design and is equipped with
electromechanical devices that facilitate the use of the furniture and
optimal use of office space. Mobility, that is a group of construction
characteristics conductive to easy movement, is currently the key
advantage of office furniture. Their different character is also shown by
the modern architectural concept of the office interior.
Requirements Concerning Safety
15. Case Study
I have given a case study from college of designing office furniture. In
office furniture I suppose to design an accountant table in which an
accountant requirement can be fulfilled.
I took an hypothetical client, Miss Sonal, she required a simple table
with some basic requirements which include required workspace, space
for laptop, a locker facility, storage facility for important files, documents
and billing records rather than this she require a electric plug point for
laptop, easy sliding drawer and lighting facility in it.
16. Concept Design
Contemporary Style
The design objective was to design a accountant table of office
that help the accountant to do his work and maintain the
records of the company.
I define an hypothetical client as my context to design for.
I take contemporary style as my concept design for designing
Accountant table because it combines influences, trends, and
new technologies without strict adherence to any one design
philosophy. Current trends include designs that blend styles and
periods but are streamlined for today’s taste. It consist of simple
and sleek lines which looks formal at such places where there is
subject of formal relation like offices. This concept mostly suits
the designing formal organization and product design for it.
18. Inspiration Design
Inspired from geometric shape I use to design accountant table
by using two main shapes i.e. rectangle and circle because these
two shapes give formal look and provide a workable
environment for the client. It also do not cover more space and
it makes the table more functional as compare to other shapes.
It do not cost mare and easy to construct.
Geometric Shapes
19. Material Board
Plywood – 30mm, Top surface of table
19mm, for other plywood slabs
Veneer laminate – Thickness 3.5mm
Metal – Stainless Steel, Cylindrical pillar of 1’’ radius.
Glass – 6mm, Plate Glass
