The Osiris myth is the most elaborate and influential story in ancient Egyptian mythology. One
version of the myth is in which Set (Osiris' brother), along with the Queen of Ethiopia, conspired
with 72 accomplices to plot the assassination of Osiris. Set fooled Osiris into getting into a box,
which Set then shut, sealed with lead, and threw into the Nile. Osiris' wife, Isis, searched for his
remains until she finally found him embedded in a tamarisk tree trunk, which was holding up the
roof of a palace in Byblos on the Phoenician coast. She managed to remove the coffin and retrieve
her husband's body.
Isis then used a spell to briefly revive Osiris so he could impregnate her. After embalming and
burying Osiris, Isis conceived and gave birth to their son, Horus. Thereafter Osiris lived on as the
god of the underworld. Because of his death and resurrection, Osiris was associated with an
yearly phenomenon in Egypt.

The Rape of the Sabine Women was an incident in Roman mythology in which the men of Rome
committed a mass abduction of young women from the other cities in the region. The word "rape"
is the conventional translation of the Latin word raptio used in the ancient accounts of the
incident. Modern scholars tend to interpret the word as "abduction" or "kidnapping" as opposed to
a sexual assault.
Stephen Vincent Benét wrote a short story called "The Sobbin' Women" that parodied the legend.
Later adapted into a 1954 musical film, it tells the story of a group of gauche but sincere
woodsmen, one of whom gets married, encouraging the others to seek partners. After a social
where they meet girls they are attracted to, they are denied the chance to pursue their courtship by
the latter's menfolk. Following the Roman example, they abduct the girls. As in the original tale,
the women are at first indignant but are eventually won over. The musical has further been
adapted into a popular 1982 Hindi film.
