Privatization –
Educational Planning in India
Impact of Globalization
Globalization in Education
• Emphasis on quality manpower
• Cross country Accredition and Recognition
of Indian Education
• Faculty Position
• Selective Approach
• Value Addition
• Inference of the Government
• Role of International Agencies
Implementation of Globalization in Education
• Opportunity for the Indian students to study
the courses of the foreign universities
through distance education
• There is an opportunity for the Indian
students to get dual degrees at the same
time
• Indian Universities may run the Courses of
Information technology in compliance with
private organizations
• The courses provided by the Indian
universities will get accredition and
recognition by the foreign universities
and foreign degrees will be given
• The foreign universities spread their
education activities through the
organization functioning in the country
Measures to be taken by the Indian
Educational System to Face the
Challenges of Globalization
• Emphasis on Enhancement of Skills
• Emphasis on linked Learning
• Emphasis on Self-Learning
• Emphasis on Teamwork

• Infrastructure of International Standards
• Modernization of Curriculum
• Research Linkage and Collaborations

Impact of Privatization
Reasons for
Privatization in Education
• Educational Reasons
• Heavy fees – sense of responsibility and
motivation for learning increase
• Teachers – no job security. They do not
indulge in disruptive activities like strike and
dharna
• As salary and other perks of teachers of
private schools are related to merit and
efficiency
• Competition – among each educational
institutions – raise the standard of education –
as a result there is an increase in quality of
education
• The Principal and Teachers of private schools
know that they are accountable for their
performance and hence their functional
efficiency is high
• In implementation various co-curricular
activities and selecting textbook and other
instructional materials there exists no unwanted
restrictions and stipulations
• As parents are paying hefty school fees, they
realize their role and responsibilities and
cooperate with the school
• Have good infrastructure – good performance
– attracting best students – further
performance – further improvement etc
• Number of private schools – increase –
educated youth – teacher-training
programme – create a good job-market
Demerits of Privatization of Education
• Educational institutions – mini – supermarkets
• Meritorious students – no place in private
schools
• Due to competition – indulge in all sorts of
corrupt practices in the examinations
• As the private school teachers are poorly paid –
more concentrating in private tuition
• Cost of education has gone up
• Knowledge shops
Advantages of Privatization
• Panacea for the Increasing Population
• Quality Education
• Increased Competence of Students
• Upgraded Curriculum
• No Political Intervention
• Reduced Budgetary Pressures
• Greater Job Opportunities
• Economic Growth
Disadvantages of Privatization
• Increased Costs
• Equity Concerns
• Lop-Sided Emphasis on Certain Courses
• Merely Employment –Oriented
Education
• Lesser Staff incentives
• Difficulty to oversee Quality
