2. Sustainable
development goals
• The United Nations have created
17 goals that will allow us to live
in a world which is fair for every
living creature, including humans!
• By protecting bees, we are
supporting goal 12 and goal 15.
(United Nations, 2015)
4. Buy local
produce
Buying food in season and
that is native to Britain helps
to protect bee populations by
providing the bees with
flowers that they can feed
from. Too many plants
brought in from other
countries risks our British
bees.
(Keyser et al, 2022)
5. Promote bee
habitats
• Wild bees do most of
our pollinating and they
need somewhere to live.
• Leave dead leaves on
the ground
• Keep the hedgerows
natural and wild
• Protect our woodland
• Leave the dead and
fallen trees for nature
(Sinu et al, 2022)
6. Have a
balanced diet
• When we rely too
heavily on meat in our
diets, farmers have to
create more grazing land
for their animals. By
eating a balanced diet,
with lots of variety, we
can protect the natural
plants and flowers for the
bees.
(Campbell et al, 2021)
7. Natural Selection
Leave it to the bees!
• Bees have been on Earth since the
dinosaurs and they are responsible for
the wide diversity of plants that we have.
• They have managed to be successful
without humans
• Beekeepers are selectively breeding
their hives to produce the most honey.
• This can threaten the genetic diversity
of bee species and therefore we may lose
some plants and animals too
• We should leave the bees to choose
(Panziera et al, 2022)
