1. ICTs IN EDUCATION
ICTs, that stands for information and communication technologies, are
defined as a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to
communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.”
These technologies include computers, the Internet, broad casting
technologies and telephony.
They are becoming a very important tool for teachers all around the world.
Worldwide research has shown that ICTs can lead to improvements in the
students learning and to better teaching methods. They have shown to cause
a significant and positive impact on students achievements, especially in
terms of knowledge, comprehension, practical skill, and presentation skill, in
every subject area of education such as maths, science, geography, etc.
However, the problem with these education technologies is that in many
cases, teacher do not know what to do with them, or how to apply them or
include them in their lesson plans. With perhaps limited information,
educators may be confused about how to choose the right ICT solution.
Educational ICT tools can be divided into 3 categories:
2. To help those confused teachers, here are the advantages and
disadvantages of using ICT tools for education:
ADVANTAGES:
• Images can easily be used in teaching and improving the retentive
memory of the students
• Teachers can easily explain complex instructions and ensure
students comprehension.
• Teachers are able to create interactive classes and make the
lessons more enjoyable, which could improve students attendance
and concentration.
DISADVANTAGES:
• Setting up the devices can be troublesome
• Too expensive to afford
• Hard for teachers to use with a lack of experience in ICTs tools.
