The document discusses the author's interest in advocating for climate change locally through a Community of Practice (CoP). The author proposes creating a blog focused on climate change in their area and conducting meetings using Zoom to unite people concerned about climate change. The author believes the biggest contribution could be made on social media and in their community, by starting a club to raise donations. Social media could be used to create a climate action page, blog, and promote events to gain momentum for addressing climate change locally.
2. The UN’s 13th Goal Resonates with me
As an a student that is interested in Sustainable Urban
Development, this goal resonates with me because of its
focus on the environment and the positive effects of
reducing our carbon footprint.
The UN’s 13th goal highlights pressing issues like the
increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. As well as
how climate change and rising sea levels are only
beginning to impact us in a manner that is progressively
noticeable.
3. Interest Applied Locally
Taking the concept of Communities of Practice into
consideration allows me to apply my interest in
advocating for climate change locally. Doing so
would mean that I could take part and make a
change in my community, uniting people who share
a similar concern for the matter.
By applying my interest locally, I could create a blog
that focuses on climate change in my area, perhaps
even conducting live meetings with people in my
community and a good source for this may be
Zoom. The main focus of my CoP would be problem
solving, coming together to create a change within
my community and calling for action.
4. Making the Greatest Contribution
The place where I could make the biggest
contribution would be on social media and in my
community, perhaps even starting a club to obtain
donations from other citizens. My contribution on
social media would be focused on our carbon
footprint, bringing awareness to the changes that
are occurring within our planet and our daily
activities that can worsen our conditions and the
air that we breathe. Using my CoP, I could really
benefit by engaging with people that share the
same concern and are able to bring new ideas to the
issue of climate change.
5. Feature of Social Media that can be Applied
Social media can be a wonderful tool to bring
awareness to important concepts, like climate
change. Social media could be used in my plan
by creating a climate action page for my location,
creating a blog, and highlighting websites and
places where people can go to learn more about
the issue. Within my CoP, we could coordinate
events and advertise them on social media so
that the matter could gain momentum within the
community.
