Ensuring Environmental
Stability

Importance of Ensuring Environmental
Stability
 Ensuring environmental stability is absolutely necessary to ensure the longevity of
not just our species, but all organisms and ecosystems on Earth as a whole. We
should collectively work to ensure a stable and livable future for generations down
the road, because without an inhabitable planet, no other problems would matter.
Not to mention, clean drinking water and sanitation should be a basic human right
everywhere.
Applying Environmental Stability Locally
 To this day Flint, Michigan does not have clean drinking water, which is incredibly
concerning because as a developed nation its worrying to see that an issue I’d
normally associate with developing nations is a problem in our country. What
worries me on a local level is could this be happening in my area and I am unaware
of it? Just last year I recall Tacoma testing positive for lead in the water.
Personal Contributions
 As a lone individual I’d be hard pressed to make meaningful difference in ensuring
environmental stability. That’s why I believe voting is one of the single greatest
things I could do as a citizen because I can have someone who can represent me
and make meaningful differences that are important to me. If I vote for the right
people and a collective majority can agree with me on issues I feel are important
then there could be a meaningful difference that way. Also, donating to established
trustworthy organizations never hurt as well, money is the blood that runs our
society.
Social Media’s Unique Impact on Ensuring
Environmental Stability
 Just about everyone has a smartphone so geolocation and hashtags on social
media has become huge. Using geolocation and hashtags together, it condenses
information to simple words and puts everything into a real time context as people
near a disaster can be alerted. Also, people can geotag images and link them with
hashtags to raise awareness to an issue, in this case ensuring environmental
stability.
Conclusion
 Although some goals on the UN Millennial Development Goals may have lost
progress. The goal of ensuring environmental stability is not on that list, rather
progress has been made. Just as an example, from 1990 to 2015 over 2.6 billion
people gained access to improved water sources. Although all the world’s nations
agreed to execute a plan to help essentially save the world, such little progress was
made because of the cost to do so. So if a goal did lose progress I feel money
could have been a factor to it.
