If we keep thinking the other person will do something to maintain sustainability,
no one will do anything to maintain sustainability.

3. Why Does this Issue
Resonate With Me?
 Environmental Sustainability
affects me just as much as it
affects the rest of the world
 My future, my kids future, etc.
 It’s part of my human duty to
advocate for those who cannot
 i.e. the animals who also live
here, the environment
 If I start making sustainable
habits now, I can teach those
around me in for the future

4. How Can This Be
Applied Locally?
 Know what can and cannot be
recycled
 There are a lot of
misconceptions about what can
and cannot be recycled
 Recycling wrong materials can
lead to contamination which
can lead to ruining a whole
batch of recyclables
 It’s not enough to recycle, reducing
is the way to go!
 Use reusable water bottles
 Use reusable coffee mugs, even
if you go to a shop for your
caffeine!
 Use reusable grocery bags,
especially for things like
produce and fruit!

 Three-part series on climate risks hosted by the City of Tacoma’s Office of
Environmental Policy and Sustainability. The series will focus on what we can do to
“reduce our climate pollution and improve local environment while preparing for
change”.

 Advocate
 Informing those around me of
little things they can do to
change
 Speak at public events to help
change legislation

8. How Can Social Media Be Uniquely
Applied to this Goal?
 Spread the news!
 Social media is a great tool to keep people ”in the know” on things that are in current
news
 Things are changing and social media can update people in live time
 Share the knowledge
 Social media is the platform for experts to share their expertise with people around the
world!
 Sharing tips and tricks makes sustainability more achievable
 Track the change
 Social media and technology allows for tracking of change (data, photos, videos, etc.)
 Sharing pictures and other media allows for the ability to track the history of things,
before/afters, and in-the-moment changes
