2. As a whole, civilization has separated itself too far from nature. Whether it
be the results of careless lifestyles or direct exploitation of mother nature
by industry for monetary gain, a self-centered way of thinking has left
countless ecosystems and habitats destroyed. Not only should our current
generations want to preserve the planet for all future generations to come,
but they also need to be held accountable for the depletion of Earth’s
health in recent decades.
People that live in poverty or in third-world countries struggle to find clean
drinking water and enough food to sustain themselves when they are no
longer able to rely on the
environment that their ancestors grew
up with.
If we attempted to shift our society’s
self-centered mindset then maybe we
could also begin to shift current capitalist
agendas that determine so much.

4. First by working on living a 100% green lifestyle, contributing as little as
possible to the pollution of our planet.
At my UW Bothell campus, I could form an Environmental Sustainability
club. We could go to the three UW campuses and post flyers with helpful
hints on how to “live green”. The group meeting would be approached as an
open lecture/ workshop setting.
To take that a step further I could form an Environmental Sustainability
group over social media, such as Facebook, to expand our network to more
diverse and distant demographics of people interested in the same goals.
This could expand across other platforms, such as Instagram, Twitter, or
Snapchat in efforts to educate individuals that come across our
information, when they may not seek out this information on their own.
Once we have a good hold on promoting and enacting clean living, we
could then turn our collective efforts to addressing local government on
issues of sustainability by reaching out through various forms of media
communication platforms and implementing our practices in public
settings.
5. My greatest contribution could be made at my local UW Bothell
campus, as well as across popular social media sites such as Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, etc. Our generation is the future so reaching out to
people my age could be impactful.
Starting these small groups in my local community could then
transpire onto social media to broaden our message and goals to larger
and more diverse communities. Interacting and engaging in pro-active
conversations with people around the same age as me in both formal
education settings like school, and through informal channels of
communication like social media could serve as the catalyst for an
engaged movement that could potentially have global implications
long-term.
6. The greatest feature of social media platforms are the use of vast
multimedia. This feature is a huge reason why people are so addicted to
their technology, it is a consistent form of entertainment!
I could film documentary styled videos mixed with engaging music and
dialogue to try and draw in followers. This video could be posted on
Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or even Tumblr, with all of them having
links to group’s primary page on Facebook or LinkedIn.
