DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF OPSIS AND
AUTOMATED PLANT WATERING SYSTEM
UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF
Mrs.S.SREELEKHA M.E., (ASSISTANT PROFESSOR)
THIRD REVIEW

2. INTRODUCTION
New irrigation methods are being developed to irrigate upland
crops that aim to use water more efficiently and effectively and to improve
profitability and sustainability. Subsurface drip irrigation systems have been
developed to overcome the prevailing practical issues of drip irrigation. It is
essential to minimize major water losses through evaporation, surface runoff
and percolation in order to economize on the limited availability of water.
The automatic irrigation system senses the moisture content of the
soil and automatically switches the pump when the power is on. This
automatic plant watering system is very useful in all climatic conditions.
Mulching is used in the field to protect the roots of the plant from
heat, cold. It is used to cover the soil surface around the plant to create
congenial condition for growth.
4. GERMINATION OF SEEDS
Germination is the process by which the plant grow from the seed. It
is emergence of normal seeding from the seeds under ideal conditions of
light ,temperature, moisture, oxygen and nutrients.

5. MULCHING SHEET
Mulching Sheet is an agriculture and horticulture technique in which
the use of organic is involved this technique is very useful in protecting
the roots of the plants from heat and cold. mulch is used to cover soil
surface around the plants to create congenial condition for the growth.
6. MATERIALS REQUIRED
• Red soil
• Water storage tank
• 2”PVC pipe and 4”PVC pipe
• Micro tube
• Cardboard box of length 120cm ,breadth 90cm and depth 80cm.
• Mulching sheet
8. SLOPE CALCULATION
Slope Ratio = 1:2
(i) Slope with Gradient over an angle = 25°
{refer from the journal of ‘FARMERS’ SUSTAINABLE
STRATEGIES FOR SOIL CONSERVATION ON SLOPING ARABLE
LANDS’}
Length = 50cm
Depth = 65cm
{Dimensions are taken form model size}
Tan 25°= opposite /adjacent 250
50 cm
?
9. 0.466 = opposite / 50
= 23cm
Initial point of the slope = 65cm - 23cm
= 42cm
(ii) Slope with gradient over an angle = 27°
Length = 40cm
Depth = 50cm
Tan 27° = opposite / adjacent
0.509 = opposite / 40
= 20.38cm
Initial point of the slope = 18cm + 20.38cm
= 38.38cm
11. TRANSPLANTING
• The optimum spacing is 60 x 45 cm for open filed condition.
• Immediate irrigation after transplanting facilitates better plant
establishment.
• Thereafter light and frequent irrigation should be given up to the
establishment of plants.
13. The mechanism of the
water distribution column allows
water to be distributed equally to all
the lines despite any irregularities in
the land. Equal distribution of water
to all the lines. When these are used in
slopes, the equal distribution of water
can be ensured by adjusting the
discharge tubes in all water
distribution columns to be at the same
level

16. INSTALLATION OF SENSOR
MOISTURE SENSOR:
Soil Moisture Meter It Is A Simple Water Sensor Can Be Used To
Detect Soil Moisture When The Soil Moisture Deficit Module
Outputs A High Level, And Vice Versa Output Low.
RELAY MODULE:
Microcontroller development board can be used as modules, can
be used as appliance control 5v - 12 v control signal of the ttl.
Control dc or ac signals can control the 220v ac load
ARDUINO UNO: The Arduino Uno is an open-
source microcontroller board based on
the Microchip ATmega328P microcontroller .The board is
equipped with sets of digital and analog input/output (I/O) pins
that may be interfaced to various expansion boards (shields) and
other circuits.
18. SUBMERGIBLE MOTOR
The motor must be selected in such a way that it is connected with the sensor in which
it will be submerged into the water for the automatic flow when the soil gets dry or
wet. Therefore a domestic motor of 0.5HP will be enough.

22. CONCLUSION
The agricultural sector is of vital importance for the region. It is undergoing a process of
transition to a market economy, with substantial changes in the social, legal, structural,
productive and supply set-ups, as is the case with all other sectors of the economy.
These changes have been accompanied by a decline in agricultural production for most
countries, and have affected also the national seed supply sectors of the region.
Due to the relatively low demographic pressure projected for the
future, the presence of some favourable types of climates and other positive factors,
including a very wide formal seed supply sector, it should be possible to overcome
problems of food insecurity in the region as a whole, and even to use this region to
provide food to other food-deficient regions. Opportunities must therefore be created to
reach these results. Appropriate policies should also be established, at various levels, in
order to facilitate seed investment and development in the region.
