2. Agriculture In Nepal
Nepal the Himalayan country with lots of biodiversity that favor most
of the agricultural products to grow
More than 65% people directly depend on agriculture for the
livelihood as major occupation
Terai in the southern side for growing the crops with tropical climate
Hill in the middle for the fruit production with moderate climate
Mountain in the northern for livestock and tourism with temperate
Country with the biggest peak of the world mount Everest and birth
place of lord Gautam Buddha

3. Status of agriculture in Nepal After Devastating
earthquake 2015
• 7.8 Richter scale earthquake hits Nepal on April 25 , 2015
• 8700 people loss life , 22,200 people injured and about 5 million
people were out of home
• That affect 40% of Nepal (39 districts damaged out of 75 districts)
• Agriculture also affected badly damaging livestock, standing crops,
food stocks and agricultural inputs
• Still people in the devastated region are on starvation

4. Problems in Nepalese agriculture :
• Lack of infrastructure on agriculture
• Low market value of the agricultural products
• Middle man as barrier of agriculture development
• Use of traditional way of farming practice
• Lack of youth manpower in agriculture
• High post production cost
• No update on new invention on agriculture

5. Agriculture Identities of Nepal
• Largest producer country of cardamom (Elichi) known as black gold
of Nepal
• Many indigenous fruits and agri products more to explore
• Yarshagumba (Fungi) in Mountain of Nepal which is half insect and
half plant
• Yak in the mountain jewellery of Himalayan
• Lots of traditional foods
• Agrotourism destination

• There are separate committee of IAAS at IAAS , TU (Institute Of
agriculture And Animal Science (Lamjung, Paklihawa) ), and AFU
organizing various program
