Nicaragua
• Location- Nicaragua
• Capital – Managua
• Climate – Tropical in lowlands, cooler in
highlands
• Population – 5.500.000 ( est. In July 2006) It is
difficult to know exactly how the population of
Nicaragua is, because there is not a trustworthy
census. About all in the most impoverish rural
population because the parents do not register
the children when they born.
Ethnic Groups – About 75% are half-breed of
Hispanic origin and indigenous.
10% is made of population of Spanish origin and
European.
A little fraction of the population is indigenous,
and black descended, (specially in the Atlantic
Cost) among these indigenous there are the
miskitos, sumus and ramas, who keep their own
original languages.
• It is amazing the highest younger population,
about 70% is under 30 years of age. It is because
the highest birth rate, in due to religious and
cultural reasons, they are reluctant to use birth
control methods.
• Languages – Spanish ( official) English and
Indigenous dialects in the Atlantic Coast.
• Currency– Córdoba. Actual change rate : US$
1.00 = C$ 18,25.
• Natural disasters: volcanoes, earthquakes, and
hurricanes. The most recently was Hurricane
Mitch, also called The Poverty Hurricane, which
left 2500 dead and 800 disappeared.
The second most poor country in Latinamerica. More
than 80% live with less than 1$ per day.

Phase I – Constructions
• First of all we did meetings with the
parents, teachers and foreman to
organize works teams.
• Delivery of the materials, with the
correspondent list for check and
control.
• Once all the materials were in optimal
conditions, they were warehoused and
the community had to take care of it.
• The microprojects constructions
started on June 5th and ended on July
2th.
11
Phase I – Constructions
– Located in the town of Tuma La Dalia, situated 36 km from Magalpa.
– 131 children of multi grade at the school with 3 teachers.
– The principal entry producing activity of the zone is: Coffe plantation.
– The kindergarden doesn’t have a stable place to funtion (classes are
given in a particular house).
– It has basis energy service and current water, avaible only during some
hours a day.
– To improve the conditions of hygiene in the preparation and consume of
the meals it was necesary a kitchen with ecofogon (ecological fire place)
and molendero (a wooden table used as a pantry). The school didn’t
have this instalations. TNT contributed to relieve this urgent necesity
and realized the donations for the construccions of the structure.
– The limitation is that doesn´t exist the disponibility of the water in the
school, necessary for the consume and preparations of the meals, team
13 of TNT-PMA has provided the school with water captors with their
filters.
– Initiation from the community: they improve the drainage system of the
school.

after every meal.
19
Other activities
SMALL REFORESTATIONS OF FRUIT TREES
We did the donations of fruit
trees (aguacates and mangos).
For agregate to the children
alimentation diet.
.
Our intention was the reforestation, and
also that the kids take care of the little
trees and contribute to the caring of the
enviroment.
20
Aditional activities
Visit to the Recovery Nutrition Center
for Children of Matagalpa
We visited the Recovery Nutrition Center for Children of Matagalpa
offten.
The Center has capacity for 20 children with severe levels of
malnutrition.
We often went there and played with the kids, we gave them food
and made them company overall, and we gave them love; that love
that they need so much.
It was one of the most emotive activities for us and to see the
recovery of the little ones day by day made us feel very happy.
21
Other activities
Drawing contest
We organized a drawing contest in Primero de
Mayo School to know what it meant to them The
Schools Alimentation Programme.
We donated colors and blocks (a white sheet
notebook) to each boy and girl of the school.
It was difficult to chose the winners because all were authentic artists.
22
Other activities
We wanted to integrate ourselves with
the communities and didn’t doubt to go
in the kitchen and help the mother to
prepare the meals and give each kids
their portion.
We also made trips with
members of the communities
like the visit the cave of Pueblo
Viejo and El puente Colgante de
San Joaquín.
23
Other activities
Donations the toys for the preeschool and dominos for the rest of the school
24
Activities with children
For us is very important the contact with children, for this reason we expend a lot of time
with them, dancing and playing. We have a very good and funny time.

Benefits of the TNT Projects - Team 13 in Nicaragua
Benefits for the community
In general improves the quality of life in the
communities.
Children receive a warm meal and just cooked,
they feel happier and the attention level is much
higher.
Mothers avoid heavy loads of warm food from their
houses to school and the risk to get respiratory
diseases decreases because the majority of the
houses do not have chimneys.
Adequate storage in the kitchen warehouse avoid
conflict among the members of the community;
because before that the food was storage in their
own houses and people use to think the food could
be eaten for their own consumption.

Benefits of the TNT Projects in Nicaragua
Benefits for the comunity
– Food will be cooked in better hygienic condition with
major quality control.
– Every kid will have his own dishes, spoon and cup.
– One meal a day will be guaranteed.
– These constructions are the buildings with the best
infrastructure and equipments of all the community. They
have washing hands sinks, latrines, running water,
drainage to avoid floods and infectious focus. All of these
incentive the children to want to assist to class and their
parents to enroll them because they encounter beautiful

  • 26. 26 Benefits of the TNT Projects - Team 13 in Nicaragua Benefits for the community In general improves the quality of life in the communities. Children receive a warm meal and just cooked, they feel happier and the attention level is much higher. Mothers avoid heavy loads of warm food from their houses to school and the risk to get respiratory diseases decreases because the majority of the houses do not have chimneys. Adequate storage in the kitchen warehouse avoid conflict among the members of the community; because before that the food was storage in their own houses and people use to think the food could be eaten for their own consumption.
