Program Experiences
1. Aerospace Design Engineers Pvt. Ltd., NAL, Bangalore : (August 1995 - April 2014 )
· The Hybrid Vortex Lattice Method (HVLM) program developed in-house is widely used for calculation of
aerodynamic forces and moments on arbitrary aircraft configuration at C-CADD. This program has been
extensively executed for the generation of aerodynamic data including panel loads for SARAS and
HANSA
· Developed Graphical User Interface for pre & post processing of data for the above package using
Graphic Kernel System (GKS with FORTRAN binding). Following are special features included in the
package.
· On-Line Help
· Built-in error checks for wrong entries
· Optional on-line viewing of geometry during input data entry
· Viewing of panel plot
· On-Line plotting of Output Aerodynamic Quantities including span wise Load Distribution on
Wing, HT etc.
2. · Cp Distribution on Fuselage & Nacelle at various azimuthal angles and plots of Cross
Sectional Cps at given body station
· Involved in the development of interactive user friendly software package for estimating aerodynamic
loads for SARAS PT1 and PT2 using HVLM without altering the master data. Also developed a package
to store and retrieve the useful outputs generated by HVLM for SARAS and HANSA.
· Participated in computing ice shapes for SARAS lifting surfaces using an interactive computer program
‘SARASICE’, developed in house using 2-d ONERA code. Ice shapes can be predicted for any given input
data and atmospheric conditions using this program
· Developed a user friendly and interactive data base management system for quick retrieval and
analysis of Wind Tunnel test data generated on SARAS aircraft scaled models.
Main features of the package:
· Useful in quick retrieval of data
· Comparison and plotting of data from various tunnels, versions, flow conditions and
configurations
· Graph reading, calculation of slope and maxima / minima.
· Support for screen dump / color post-script printout.
· Updating database as well as the program to accommodate the new data types (for example Cp
distributions, power model test results)
· Involved in computing performance quantities for SARAS PT1 and PT2. Performance parameters
included take-off and landing distances, cruise
· Performance and point performance quantities like max speed, specific range, rate of climb etc. Engine
parameters for PT66 and PT67 using Hartzell and MT propeller charts respectively were estimated as
and when required using EEPP package supplied by the engine manufacturer.
· Development of 2-D and 3-D plotting package on UNIX platform. Developed on IBM RS/6000 system
under AIX 4.1.5 Operating System
Graphical platform used – GKS with FORTRAN binding on X-terminal,
HFT or emulated X window.
· 2-D plotting package can do data analysis like derivative estimation, cross plot, correlation plot etc. and
drive postscript devices.
· Developed extensive postscript routines for production of report quality hardcopy outputs on
postscript devices.
· 3-D plotting depicts arbitrary paneled aircraft geometry in orthographic views. It can do local zooming
and panning. Hidden line removal achieved using normal projection algorithm and painter’s algorithm.
· Involved in software development for analysis of various data using Wavelet Transform Techniques.
This involved using windows (3.1) SDK under ‘C’ for trouble shooting and bug fixing of packages
developed in the group.
