41. - make data meaningful
- make information personal
- make action seamless
- make systems sustainable
42. THANK YOU
‘hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It
is not the conviction that something will turn out well,
but the certainty that something makes sense,
regardless of how it turns out’ - Vaclav Havel
Editor's Notes
Sustainability is complex and hard for people to act on.
We
planetary skin uses ubiquitous connectivity, aerial/satellite assessments, And microsensing on the ground to create intelligent responsesto the systems level challenges of a rapidly changing world. Central and south Asia and southern Africa are predicted to face crop reductions of 30% by 2030. This is potentially catastrophic from any perspective, clearly. One very interesting collaboration is between NASA, Cisco and other organizations to create Planetary Skin, which is starting to deploy an amazing array of data collection and smart remote sensing. When we start to layer hydrology, weather, crop demand, soil and social condition data and engage in new scenario planning tools, we can help small holder farmers like on these coffee farms make informed decisions about where, how and what to plant in a seamless way. We can support them with information which they currently don’t even have access to and provide better means of micro finance and insurance for them and foster sustainable agriforestry production systems.
