Kylie Minogue's image evolved across three of her music videos:
1) "I Should Be So Lucky" portrayed her as a successful young woman appealing to 10-12 year old girls. She dressed fashionably but modestly.
2) "Better The Devil You Know" showed a more mature Kylie appealing to late teens and early 20s. She wore fewer clothes and danced with men suggestively.
3) "Spinning Around" depicted Kylie as a sexual club-goer, expanding her audience to the 20s to 30s and including males. She took control on the dance floor.

I Should BeSo Lucky
The representation of Kylie in the video for “I Should Be So Lucky” shows her to
be a successful young women, she owns her own apartment, which would be
considered stylish. In addition to this she has a four-poster bed and a claw foot
bath, as well as a baby grand piano. All of these things are the type of object you
could find in a toy house, which tells us that the audience she is appealing to is
young girls aged 10-12. The song itself supports this as she sings about love, but
not in a romantic way and instead the way a child loves a role model. The scene
with the bubble bath is also very child friendly, there is almost no skin on show
with the exception of an arm and her head. Kylie dresses in a highly fashionable
way which does not reveal too much, this is something the audience would like
to be like when they are older. As far as being a good role model, parents of the
audience could not complain, because she is a typical girls, very smiley, fun , safe
and successful.
Better The DevilYou Know
In the video for “Better The Devil You Know” Kylie is shown to be more mature
and adult like than in the video for “I Should Be So Lucky”. She wears fewer
clothes, which might suggest she is trying to appeal to a more mature audience of
possible late teens to early 20s at the oldest. She appears more grown up in the
way she appears and in her actions especially when dancing with two other men,
but despite this she maintains those characteristics of very smiley, fun and
approachable which she shows in “I Should Be So Lucky”. The music video in this
is not narrative, as the lyrics don’t directly correlate to what happens in the
video, there is also no mise-en-scene to the video as some of the colours like
orange and blue look like random colours that have been chosen.
The style of this music video makes it seem like Kylie is trying to directly
compete with Madonna who at the time was already world famous. The way
Kylie dresses is very similar to the way Madonna dresses in her video of “Like A
Prayer” where she wears a black dress, event the beginnings are similar where
they both seem to be running for no reason. In several ways Kylie is still
something her audience would aspire to be like, mainly in the way she is still
very fashionable. She changed her hair from the 80s perm into a more modern
style.
SpinningAround
In the video for “Spinning Around” Kylie seems to have changed her audience yet
again as she shows herself to be a more sexual club going kind of person, the
Gold shorts she wears through the majority of the video suggest this. Because of
this the range if her audience is on the rise again and probably in the 20s and
going up to the 30s, in addition to this the audience would have expanded from
females to both males and females. In the video Kylie picks who she wants to
dance with, showing she is control and sort of the life of the party and getting
everyone involved.
