Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
* I am responsible for troubleshooting the steam production process as well as the software system being used to control the
production of steam and the generation of electricity.
* Duties include warming the boiler and turbine up at the appropriate speed to prevent thermal expansion problems that will
cause vibration trouble on the turbine bearings.
* Responsible for the starting and stopping of all auxillary equipment associated with steamdriven turbines used to generate
electricity.
* Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in the power plant.
* Conduct water tests on Boiler Feed Water, Condensate water, Boiler Blowdowns, Deaerator water, to be sure impurities are at a very
low level.
* Responsible for recording data and performing inspections to ensure that the plant remains compliant with the environmental laws.
* Conduct daily inspections on the fuel oil holding tank, the storm water outfalls, the industrial waste water tank, the natu ral gas yard,
volatile organic compounds containment areas, all gas and oil ports on all of the boilers, and the continuous emissions monitoring
system.
* Complete reports using the following programs: Spill Prevention Control Containment program, Volatile Organic compound
Program, Accidental Release Pollution Prevention Program.
* Complete required documentation to ensure environmental compliance with the Title 5 Air Permit and the National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination SystemPermit.

• Responsible for starting, stopping,adjusting,operating, maintaining and performing operational repairs and duties on single and
multiple fuel powered boilers.
• Responsible for operating, adjusting and monitoring all auxiliary equipment and pollution control equipment associated with the
boilers in the area.
• Maintain boilers that use oil and gas to produce high-pressure steamand hot water required for heating operations at the Edgewood
Base.
• Operator of high-pressure water tube boilers paying very close attention to boiler variables to maintain boiler efficiency.
• Maintain and monitor boiler combustion rates to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
• Monitor, adjust and control all phases ofboiler plant operations.
• Use manual, automatic, and microprocessor control systems to make the necessary adjustments for proper boiler operation. Also use
meters, gauges,and computer-generated data to determine boiler adjustments that need to be made to maintain boiler efficiency and
plant load demands.
• Perform hourly readings on gauges,meters, detectors,recorders, boiler water level indicators, and analog displays to detect danger
signals on the boilers.
• Responsible for analyzing and testing boiler feedwater, boiler blowdown water and condensate water to ensure proper water quality.
• Give direction to lower grade workers to test feed water, boiler water and condensate using standard chemical tests to be sure water
quality and boiler efficiency remains high. It is very important to prevent boiler water impurities from settling on the surface of the
boiler tubes because this degrades heat transfer in the boiler and dramatically reduces boiler efficiency.
• Determine the treatment and the chemicals to be used to control chemical concentrations,remove boiler impurities, entrapped gases,
and stabilize fluctuating water conditions in the boilers.
• Monitor the Energy Management and Control System (EMCS) console that gives notification of any problems with the boilers.
• Perform boiler plant equipment mechanical duties such as but not inclusive to: installs, maintains, and repair large complex boilers,
heating plants,and auxiliary equipment.
• Inspect and repair steamdistribution system, condensate return systemand auxiliary equipment to maintain high efficiency and
safety standards.These systems include pressure reducing stations, steamtraps, expansion joints and large steammains inside and
outside of the boiler plants.
• Perform annual inspection of boilers and all auxiliary equipment and steam headers for preventive maintenance to ensure boiler
efficiency and plant safety.
• Troubleshoot all problems that are encountered with the boilers to ensure efficiency, reliability and safety.
• Check and test the operation of all safety equipment associated with the boiler plant such as fire extinguishers, flame scanners,high
pressure controllers, low water cut outs,proper purge timers, and air flow for boiler light off and relight.

• Operated GE frame 6 Combustion Turbines that produce 85MW of electricity and a HRSG Heat Recovery Steam Generator that
produced an additional 200,000 LBS of 1250# steam an hour.
• Participated as part of a start-up team that operated a 1,500 ton per day petroleum coke gasification plant that supplied synthetic gas
to the combustion turbines.
• Safely operated an acid gas removal process that was in the syngas path that consisted ofan absorbertower and a stripper tower. It
was very important to remove the H2S from the syngas because it would attack and damage everything it contacted.
• Made recommendations to improve industrial hygiene that improved the working environment and conditions for operators who
were being exposed to petroleum coke dust.These recommendations were adopted and changed the times of the running of the coke
belts to reduce exposure to the operators.
