1. ACTIONS Model
Satellite based Video Conferencing
Access
Video Conferencing is NOT accessible in term of easy to access and it is not flexible
and not portable only synchronous and has no option to be asynchronous as learner
must be present at that exact time, or else they will miss the lesson and if they are late
they may miss some important components of the lesson, Video conferencing system
is on-demand system so it may not be recorded or played back.
Costs
Cost structure of video conferencing is high as video conferencing needs extremely
expensive hardware like satellite and high definition cameras and so on and also cost
per student is high as each student must have all the components to run a video
conference so the cost could be counted as high in general what is more video
Conferencing cost high comparing with other distance education technologies.
Teaching and Learning
The kind of learning needed is Lecture, and lectures are best delivered in distance
through Video Conferencing and Teacher-Directed lecture is the best instructional
approach which meets our needs and the best technologies which support teaching
and learning in this situation are Satellites, Cameras, and web. The content could be
adapted easily to this technology since the content will be delivered as a lecture and
this technology develops a wide range of skills in the students such as listening and
note-taking.
Interactivity and User-friendliness
This technology enables Student-Teacher interaction only and in some situations it
enables student-student interaction however that kind of Video conferencing is
extremely expensive. Video Conferencing is NOT easy to learn and use as it has very
complicated hardware and if something goes wrong student will not be able to
identify the problem easily.
Organizational Issues
Organization requires satisfaction on the technology effectiveness to provide support
and the main barrier which prevents using this technology in the institution is the
high cost of the technology and the technical requirements and to incorporate this
technology the institution must make some changes, such as establishing high quality
technological infrastructure
2. Novelty
This Technology is not that much novel and it has limited technical capabilities as it
is capable of transferring video signal to distance learner only.
Speed
It does not take that much time as once the materials are ready instructor can present
and represent them to the student directly and so they can learn, so distribution does
not take that much time in video conferencing and for materials they cannot be
changed easily since they are delivered as they must be represented to the students if
any new updates are available.
