Magazine Program Evaluation
1. Magazine Evaluation
What programmes did I use?
The programs I used where InDesign and Photoshop the reason I used these are because I did a draft in
InDesign and found the programme difficult to use and thought Photoshop would be easier.
Then I decided to use Photoshop as I already have some experience with Photoshop and would be able
to add more detail and detail quicker and easier.
Tools
The main tools I used were the text tool to imitate the
writing the shape tool to make the shapes the correct
shape sizes and colour. I also used the erase tool this was
to remove the background from my model who I took the
photo of.
2. Have you learnt any new skills?
The new skills I have learnt are the basics of the program InDesign as one of my tasks was to
go on the program and have a play around using the tools; this allowed me to teach my self
how to change text and do other basic things that would amount to my magazine cover
eventually.
Strengths
I think that one of the strengths of my recreation is the background, I think this is a strength
because I managed the get the edge to fade like the original I managed to do this using the
gradient tool.
I used this icon/tool to give the shading effect to the edges using the
Another positive side of my magazine is that I managed to get a similar looking t-shirt for
the recreation this makes it very effective because it means you require less editing to make
them look similar.
The final strength of my magazine recreation is the pricing tag I have it pretty much identical
the only differences are the original has a white boarder and isn’t as widely stretched this
isn’t very noticeable on the magazine you can only notice it now because it is zoomed in and
all focus is on it whereas on the magazine it is small and in the corner this makes it less
noticeable because there are other things that catch your eye and attention.
3. Weaknesses
I would say the main weakness of my recreation is the main title that reads ‘FourFourTwo’ I
think this is a weakness because I could not create the correct font using Photoshop this is
because I didn’t have the option to take out the individual letter spacing and I think this
would have been very effective to make the letters look chunkier and more bold.
Another weakness is that I didn’t have time to finish the left third titles as I had a deadline
to meet and also I thought it was the least important part of the magazine to produce.
Does it look like the original cover?
In some ways I think that it looks like the original because of the colour schemes and titles
also if they were next to each other and somebody who has never looked at them before
would be able to realise that I had attempted an amateur recreation also I have used an as
similar title I could find when using photoshop.
What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
Firstly I would have chosen a higher quality photo to recreate, this is because when I tried to
zoom in and erase the background from a puff or plug etc I couldn’t do this because the
zoomed in version would be very pixelated and low quality this meant that I had to design
my own ones which then became the weaknesses of my magazine.
