UNIX Systems Administrator
Senior member of team responsible for administration of over 1500 UNIX based
application systems for a leading health insurance provider.
Objective:
I am seeking a position with an organization that will allow me to contribute using my IT
background and general work experience in a team centered role. I am a conscientious
worker with strong communication and organizational skills who has always performed at
a high level at previous positions.
Responsibilities:
• Install, configure and manage AIX servers on over 30 IBM P-Series frames
• Submit and coordinate system changes following company Change Management policies
• Administer hardware management consoles for all P Series systems
• Perform Virtual IO systems management for configured server frames
• Perform bi-monthly 24/7 on call tasks to provide support on business applications using Unix
based systems
• Monitor and maintain optimal system performance using OS performance tools
• Maintain up to date OS version level, patch upgrades and emergency fixes as needed
• Work closely with application and middleware teams to provide prompt, on demand
technical assistance and integration of Operating Systems with Business applications
• Make system recommendations to upper management regarding hardware platforms as well
as operating system and third party software applications for better system performance
• Upgrade hardware systems as needed for growth/capacity planning
• Develop and update documentation of procedures used by our team to train co-workers
• Administration of privileged user security software tool for Unix server team
Major Accomplishments:
• Member of team that installed the infrastructure for over 150 applications required for the
implementation of the Affordable Health Care member services
• Managed systems support for the first Health Analytics tracking systems employed at BCBS
• Installed and configured replacement hardware using Virtual IO tools to allow for Live
migration of over 200 servers, eliminating downtime for application end users as well as
reducing hardware and licensing costs by $2.5M for the organization
• Installed and maintained over 20 Power HA clusters, providing redundant platforms for
applications, thus minimizing exposure to unplanned system outages
• Coordinated numerous upgrades/repairs using fail over hardware to eliminate application
outages for end users
• Member of installation and maintenance team for Disaster Recovery site, providing turnkey
backup system access in case of catastrophic loss of main Data Center
• Developed and documented procedures for installation of High Availability software used for
automatic system fail over to backup servers during outages or planned maintenance
• Team Specialist for Xceedium Xsuite Security software management
