4. Introduction
Pellet pressing is an important step in
making of pellet. Different types of dies
are used in pellet pressing. There is
economic relationship with the shelf life
of the die. So self life of die plays
important role in the economic profit of
a feed mill. There are many factors
related with the shelf life of die. This will
be discussed in this presentation.

Formulation

Raw materials Moisture

Speed of roller
6. Fomulation
Die used for making cattle feed has less shelf life than die
used for making poultry and fish feed.
Raw ingredients used in ration
If the shape of the raw ingredients
are irregular, then the shelf life of die
will decrease.
7. Particle size
Fat
If fat is used in formulation it'll act as lubricant, so there'll be less friction in
the die . Therefore, the self life of die will increase.
If the particle size of the ingredients are in uniform size then the die shelf
life will increase and vice-versa.
8. Moisture content of feed particles
Press control
When good quality feed ingredients with appropriate moisture content
are pressed in the pellet press then they pass easily through the die. Thus
die shelf life increases.
If the space between roller and die is less, then there will be high pressure
upon the die, resulting in less shelf life of die and vice-versa.
9. Speed of roller
If the speed of the roller is high, then the shelf life of die will be less as
more feed will pass through and vice-versa.
Other factors
If there is a magnet separator in the system, then the shelf life of die will
increase.
10. Conclusion
Conclusion In this presentation we've learned that
formulation,raw materials,fat,particle
size, moisture, press control, speed of roller are the
factors affecting shelf life of die press. If we cann't
control any of these aspects the shelf life of the
die will be significantly lowered. So during
production we've to be carefull when selecting
dies in accordance to the purposes of using them.
