• NTFS is a proprietary file system developed by
Microsoft.
• NTFS has several technical improvements over
the file systems that it superseded.
• File Allocation Table (FAT) and High Performance
File System (HPFS).

• NTFS replaces FAT file system and provides file

6. File Permissions
• Most file systems have methods to assign
permissions or access rights to specific users and
groups of users.
• These systems control the ability of the users to
view, change, navigate, and execute the contents
of the file system.

8. Quota
• A limited or fixed number or amount of people or
things.
• A disk quota is a limit set by a system administrator
that restricts certain aspects of file system usage on
modern operating systems.
• The function of using disk quotas is to allocate
limited disk space in a reasonable way.

10. Volume Snapshot Service (VSS)
• It is a technology included in Microsoft Windows that
allows taking manual or automatic backup copies or
snapshots of computer files or volumes, even when
they are in use.
• Shadow Copy technology requires the file system to
be NTFS in order to create and store shadow copies.
• Shadow Copies can be created on local and external
volumes by any Windows component that uses this
technology, such as when creating a scheduled
Windows Backup or automatic System Restore point.

• In Windows there’s a feature called Offline
Files which works with Sync Center to make
network files and folders available offline
when you’re not connected.
• This feature is cool when you want to access
network resources while offline.
