New Technology File System (NTFS )
• NTFS is a proprietary file system developed by
Microsoft.
• NTFS has several technical improvements over
the file systems that it superseded.
• File Allocation Table (FAT) and High Performance
File System (HPFS).

New Technology File System (NTFS )
• such as improved support for metadata and
advanced data structures to improve
performance, reliability, and disk space use.
• Meta Data (a data that describes and gives
information about other data).

New Technology File System (NTFS )
• NTFS is the standard file system of Windows NT,
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server
2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista and
Windows 7 etc.
• NTFS replaces FAT file system and provides file
system for operating system of Windows series of
Microsoft.

File Permissions
• Most file systems have methods to assign
permissions or access rights to specific users and
groups of users.
• These systems control the ability of the users to
view, change, navigate, and execute the contents
of the file system.
• Read  Write  Delete  Change  Exchange
etc.

Quota
• A limited or fixed number or amount of people or
things.
• A disk quota is a limit set by a system administrator
that restricts certain aspects of file system usage on
modern operating systems.
• The function of using disk quotas is to allocate
limited disk space in a reasonable way.

Volume Snapshot Service (VSS)
• It is a technology included in Microsoft Windows that
allows taking manual or automatic backup copies or
snapshots of computer files or volumes, even when
they are in use.
• Shadow Copy technology requires the file system to
be NTFS in order to create and store shadow copies.
• Shadow Copies can be created on local and external
volumes by any Windows component that uses this
technology, such as when creating a scheduled
Windows Backup or automatic System Restore point.

Offline Files
Copyrights By Tanveer Malik
• In Windows there’s a feature called Offline
Files which works with Sync Center to make
network files and folders available offline
when you’re not connected.
• This feature is cool when you want to access
network resources while offline.
