1. A REPORT ON A TWO MONTHS
INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME DONE AT
CDC GROUP RUBBER TIKO
BY
ETONDI RHEMA TEKE DEPARTMENT
OF LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT
MANAGEMENT.
2. GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The internship was carried out in CDC Group Rubber Tiko in the
logistics office. Throughout this internship is was discovered logistics
is important to all departments in CDC as the company tries as much as
possible to satisfy their customers at the lowest possible cost. The
logistics activities in CDC are centered mostly on transport logistics
that is they perform logistics activities throughout their production
processes but the logistics manager is only interested on managing
transportation at the level of group rubber.
3. GENERAL INTRODUCTION CONT
Transportation is a means of conveying people and
goods from one place to another either by the
means of vehicles, bike, ships. plane, (helicopter,
air craft, etc). Transportation places a very
important rule in CDC as every activity in the
organization requires transportation i.e.
transportation is require to move raw material from
farms to factory, from factory to warehouse and to
the final consumers
4. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF
CAMEROONDEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
CDC
The Cameroon Development Corporation is a
public incorporated in 1947 to acquire, develop and
operate extensive plantation of tropical crops,
namely: rubber, oil palm and banana in the Littoral,
South West and North West regions. From these
crops it produces semi-finished rubber, oil palm
kernel and top grade edible banana for local and
export market.

CAMEROONDEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
CDC CONT
Specific objectives of the Logistics Service Group Rubber
The specific objective of the group rubber logistics service is
as follows
To provide transport means to the estates and industrial units,
to transport workers and evacuate their products
The logistic service rubber was created in 2008, the office
comprises of 3 staff that is;
The logistics manager rubber(LMR)
A group rubber manager’s staff
A logistics Clark
This office is equipped with a computer desktop and a printer
an also have basic office furniture’s and materials.
6. MAIN CHALLENGES
The logistic service has the following challenges.
Under staffed, that is only three staff (manager and
Clark) have to manage the logistics service where as a
normal structure of an office is secretarial typist, clerk,
supervisor and manager.
None of the 3 staffs is technically equipped for the
management of logistics. Not even a seminars of
workers on logistics service.
Furthermore there exist no Standard Operation
Procedures. (S0P)
7. VEHICLES MANAGEMENT
A. Fleet description
Definition: It can be define as a set of rolling
equipments’ e.g. Ships, Air craft, and Vehicles
belonging to a particular group of persons. CDC
operates just with a fleet of vehicles because it
deals only with land transport for the transportation
of it goods and services like (Cup lump, Latex and
Materials) that are used in the factory. The various
fleet can be described as follows.
1. Heavy vehicles
2. Light vehicles
3. Tractors
8. a. Heavy Vehicles:
These are vehicles above 7 tons this vehicles are mainly
Tippers, Lories and personnel carriers. They are mainly used
in the transportation of cup lumps latex and personnel
inclusive.
a. Light vehicles
These are vehicles that are mostly for supervision
transport. They are mainly pickups with 4 wheel drive. Another
category of light vehicles are Ambulances that are use for the
transportation of estates patients to the CDC central hospital
(CDC cottage or clinic).
b. Tractors
This is another group of heavy vehicles, but from
classification they have decided to separate these vehicles.
Tractors are made up of the tractors head and the trailer. The
two are mainly used for the evacuation of cup lumps and Latex
(material transportation inclusive) such as fertilizers,
pesticides, seedlings.
9. STRENGTH, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES AND
THREAT OF THE CAMEROON DEVELOPMENT
CORPORATION (CDC)
PROBLEM FACED
I. There are not enough vehicles to serve the estate and transport personnel
to farm on time. Workers have to wait for long for vehicle to make multiple trips to
transport them to the various farms. This delay the time they get to work and there
for affects the efficiency of the work force.
II. Most of the vehicles and equipments in the factories are old and no longer
cost effective in carrying out their activities to increases the organization out put.
III. Misuse of the company fleet is very common in CDC with workers taking
advantage of the vehicles put at their disposal to serve their private activities; Also
using the vehicle to carry mails that can be sent by emails.
IV. Also it ithere is no universal software installed by the corporation to
manage fleets.
V. Also some of the camps houses where constructed some decades ago
and are in very bad state.
10. PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
I. For the corporation to function properly we need
health workers. So it’s the duty of the corporation to
provide them with good living condition e.g portable
drinking water, good toilet facilities.
II. The problem of electricity can be resolved by
providing stand by automatic generators to continue the
activities of the office and industrial units of the
corporation. This will ensure continuous functioning of
the corporation with or without power from the national
state corporation.
III. Reinforcing the internet supply system in the
corporation is necessary to avoid misuse of corporation
vehicles and finance. There are some documents that
are carried manually from one office to another which
sending by emails will save enough time and money.
11. RECOMMENDATION
• It is the duty of the government to provide
good farm to market roads to its farms, in fact
transportation alone contributes to 1/3 of total
logistics cost of a corporation. Imagine how much
profit will be generated with a good transport
network.
• Also installation of new equipments in the
industrial units and investing a lot of capital I the
training the personnel’s to operate these equipment
is very essential for the growth of CDC. There is no
need to keep machines that cannot deliver.
12. CONCLUSION
The Cameroon Development Corporation being one of the
highest employers in Cameroon greatly influences the
economy of Cameroon. Proper coordination of the logistics
activities and supply chain network will increases its
performance and increases its size and financial strength. An
increase in its financial strength means a max improvement in
the country’s economy and condition of its citizens.
Transportation alone contribute to about 1/3 of the total
logistics cost of a corporation therefore proper transportation
and fleet management in a corporation like CDC will increases
its return on investments. Also cost reduction, service
improvement will also affect the organization’s return on
logistics assets (ROLA).
In fact with a conscious and strategic planning, control and
execution of a well established logistics system design the
Cameroon Development Corporation will live to be cherished
over decades.
