Introduction:
Lotte Chemical Pakistan Limited (LCPL) is a manufacturer and supplier of Purified Terephthalic Acid
(PTA). PTA is the primary raw material for producing Polyester fiber, Polyester filament yarn (PFY),
Polyester film and Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). LCPL production capacity is 500,000 tonnes.
With a turnover of $92 billion in 19 countries, spread over 20 businesses, Lotte is one of South Korea's
largest conglomerates. In Pakistan its construction phase started under ICI's supervision in 1996 with
the PTA plant commissioned in 1998. PTA business demerged from ICI Pakistan Ltd into Pakistan PTA
Ltd (PPTA) in 2000. By 2008, PPTA had become a part of AkzoNobel since AkzoNobel acquired ICI
globally. In 2009, KP Chemical, a subsidiary of Lotte, acquired PPTA making it part of Lotte and changed
its name to Lotte Pakistan PTA Ltd (LPPTA). In 2012, the Co-Generation Plant was commissioned and
KP Chemical's identity changed globally to Lotte Chemical and in 2013, LPPTA became Lotte Chemical
Pakistan Ltd.
PTA is the primary raw material for producing Polyester fiber, Polyester filament yarn, Polyester film
and Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). LCPL holds the foundation of the polyester chain in Pakistan
and retains its edge by being a local producer and key supplier for the domestic Polyester and PET
industries with short delivery, world class quality and exceptional customer service.
For producing PTA we import our feedstock (Paraxylene) from reputable suppliers based in Asia and
Middle-East region. Our plant operates under a technology license with IPT (Investa Performance
Technologies) which is currently the leading global supplier of PTA technology.
LCPL has also enabled expansive infrastructure development in Port Qasim area including Chemical
Jetty, raw water pipeline and production of industrial gasses through third party contracts. This has
started a new trend in industrial investments in Pakistan.
Besides enabling significant growth in downstream industries LCPL operations provide significant
foreign exchange savings in excess of USD 100 million annually for the country.

TRANSPORTATION MODES OF LOTTE CHEMICAL PAKISTAN LTD:
Lotte Chemical Pakistan uses the following transportation methods for in their business.
1. By Sea

1. By Sea
Lotte Chemical Pakistan Ltd is using this mode of transportation for importing the active
ingredient of their core product i.e. Purified Terephthalic acid. They import multiple chemicals
through this mode; however their main shipments are consisting of importing the “Paraxylene”
and “Acetic Acid”.
They normally import these chemical quantities in bulk form from the Middle East, China and
KSA. Since these chemicals are in liquid form, hence the Motor Tankers are being used to ship
these chemicals.
They have made the joint venture with the Engro and made the chemicals jetty at Port Qasim
which is named as ‘EVTL’ (Engro Vopak Terminal). Normally all the Motor Tankers having the
similar parameters which this jetty specified and carrying these kinds of chemicals,
discharged/loaded from here.
2. Through Pipeline
The EVTL jetty has the oil piers, through which the handlings of liquids are being done. Lotte
Chemicals Pakistan Ltd is using this made to basically supply their chemicals from port to their
plant.
When the Motor Tanker calls at the port, first they prefer to fill the capacity of their plant. So
they use the pipeline which directly sends these chemicals to their plant. However the motor
tankers carrying a lot of quantity which their plant can’t fill in one go. So therefore, they are
using the 3rd party services to carry the remaining quantities. They are having the vendor at
Port Qasim which carries their stock in the buffer tanks at the bonded warehouse. So whenever
their plant is out of the specific chemical’s quantity, they will intimate the vendor and he will
supply the same to their plant accordingly.
3. By Air
Airfreight involves the shipment of packages and goods via an air carrier. An air carrier could
be commercial or charter. Transportation via air carriers allows shipments an easier gateway
to anywhere that airlines fly and land.

The process of airfreight is used in conjunction with other shipping methods such as rail, marine
and has since become widely used as one of the most efficient delivery options in exporting
and importing in the 21st century. The airfreight industry has grown steadily over the past
decades and considered an efficient and quicker way of transporting goods.
Lotte Chemical Pakistan Ltd using this transportation system i.e. Air for different purposes.
Normally they use this mode of transportation when they need the different engineering spare
parts for their plant.
They normally import these spare parts from their suppliers from Germany, i.e. General
Motors, Caterpillar etc. They are also using this mode in any case of urgent shipments required
for their core product, i.e. chemical. Also they use this mode when the shipment is not really
large in size. Air Freight Process includes 3 major process mentioned below.

4. By Road
Road transportation is the most common and most flexible mode for movement of goods. It is
only the mode which arrives to your doorstep and rest of all are restrict at designated place.
Lotte chemical is also using road transportation to dispatch their goods to is consumers in major
cities of the country. They use this mode of transportation for supplying their products to the
customers destination according to their requirements. Lotte Chemical outsource its road
transportation services to M/s. Shakoor Company as 3PL.

Tracking of Vehicles
Lotte Chemical is one of the organization who believes on the supplier improvement and emphasize
to work on mutual benefits with their key suppliers. Recently the information Technology department
along with Shakoor Transportation Company together design an internal application which provides a
facility to track consignment with the help of GPS system. This application not only beneficial for LCP
& STC but also enable their customers to track their consignment to know where they are and how
much time will vehicle take to deliver goods at their destination.
