We know that you struggle to trust your data for business decision making and that achieving data integrity – data with accuracy, consistency, and context – is a business imperative for organizations. That is why you need to gain insights based on location.
It’s tempting to think of geocoding as a simple conversion process of inputting a street address and receiving coordinates in return. In reality, geocoding is a complex process with many potential pitfalls. If you are unaware of these, you may generate inaccurate geocodes and not even realize they are wrong. This could have a major impact on your business outcomes.
Geocoding provides the greatest lift to your business strategy when you can trust the results and operationalize your addresses.
In this on-demand webinar, geocoding expert, Darby McMillen discusses how properly cleansing, standardizing, and validating an address ensures your data can be trusted to be accurately located and enriched with the information you need to make critical decisions.

8. What is geocoding?
Geocoding is the process of transforming a
description of a location (likely an address)
to a location.
Combination of software and data perform
2 primary tasks:
• Match an address
• Return a location
Important: Geocoding is a means to an end!

9. Location Accuracy
Location Accuracy is the precision at which an “address” can be associated
to a location.
Levels include:
• Address/Point
• Building – on the building
• Parcel – center of a parcel/property
• Street – interpolation along a street segment
• Postal – center of a postal area
• Geography – center of a geographic area

Since the launch of the Precisely brand, our team has spent hundreds of hours interviewing and surveying Precisely customers, our business and technology partners, and industry analysts. We wanted to understand the struggles that today’s businesses face in trusting their data. And we wanted to learn how business and IT dynamics are shifting… and where organizations anticipate their next data challenges will be.
What we heard from the customers we interviewed, a subset of which you see here, is that 100% of organizations struggle to consistently trust their data for decision-making. They shared that you wrestle with issues of data quality, timeliness, and governance. And they said that context is becoming more and more critical… yet it’s extremely difficult to achieve. In fact, we heard from one customer that their ability to trust data is often more dependent on knowing who the data came from, than on truly understanding the data itself.
Through these customer conversations it became clear that data integrity – built on accuracy, consistency, and the all-important aspect of context – is an imperative for businesses in all industries.
And that’s why we at Precisely are focused on delivering data integrity in a new and different way. There has been no consistent definition of data integrity that the market all uses, and the definitions out there often focused on collections of technical capabilities related to data quality. But that is not good enough. Today’s businesses need a definition of data integrity based on their need for data that is not just accurate and consistent, but is also rich in context.
And that’s why Precisely has redefined data integrity as data with maximum accuracy, consistency, and context for confident business decision-making.
