4. Why is a Smart Charger Product List being Created?
• 1million EVs by 2030 would mean ~50% of fleet
would need to be charged via electrical grid
• If unmanaged, EV electricity demand could rise
to become 28% of evening peak demand by
2030!
• Ireland aiming for 80% renewable electricity, EVs
customers can take great advantage of this while
helping to manage wind power
• EVs can sell power services to the help manage
the grid via Smart Chargers
• Safety – we cannot overload a home’s electrical
supply

5. What is SEAI doing now to Promote Purchase of Smart Chargers?
• From Sept 2022, the EV Home Charger grant
scheme will only grant aid Smart Chargers
• Applicants will be required to select only chargers
listed on our list of Smart Chargers
• This list is now open for submissions and is hosted
on our Triple E product register under:
– Category: Electric & Alternative Fuel Vehicles
– Technology: Electric Vehicles & Associated
Technologies
– Product Type: “EV Charging Equipment – SEAI
Grant Eligible Applications”

7. Core Requirements of a “Smart Charger”
• Must Receive, Send and Process information
and adjust rate of EV Charging (or Discharging
V2G))
• Adjust operation in response to external device
such as a Power Meter – Demand Management
capable
• Monitor, Record and Transmit energy
consumption data
• (Not to be confused with Smart Meter:
– Measures consumption every 30mins
– Will enable dynamic pricing )

• Create an Account if needed
• Follow guidelines here: https://www.seai.ie/business-and-public-
sector/triple-e-register-for-products/registering-a-product/
• Submit Product for Triple E (Individual only)
• Smart Charger attributes will be required for submission
• Product is then reviewed and confirmed as eligible
• Follow-up documentation will be required to confirm attributes
• Product will be approved and published online
• Allow 5-10 weeks – Submit by June to guarantee listing for Sept!!!!
