9. responsibility / civic duty / value
...if our society truly values education as a means of
preparing citizens to participate in the decisions that
affect their lives as individuals and the society they
create as a collective, as well as enable individuals
to improve their lots and their society, then we need
to reexamine how we define “merit”.

17. Do you think you will incorporate any ideas from the
course into your courses? If so, how?
“Yes, I think it will help me explain the "why" to particular
assignments related to digital media.”
“Investigate types of social media communication with each
individual class.”
“I think the idea of teaching in the open is probably something I'll
continue to negotiate in my courses.”
18. Would your recommend this course to other faculty?
“Yes! I loved that this course encouraged me to look at digital
identity, teaching and scholarship in entirely new ways and from
new perspectives. I’m also reflecting on the topic of digital
citizenship as a result of this course.”
“Yes - - relevance.”
“I would recommend it for individuals who are interested in
thinking more about digital identity, networks, and scholarship or
seeing an example of an online course.”
How I got a conversation about digital citizenship started at my institution. How do I enact my responsibility? If education is fundamentally about being a better society, then it includes online spaces.
What are some conversations around the digital that are happening around us? Of course there are access issues, and this is one of privilege. The I’m not into that stuff badge of pride.
Both describe the physicality of people on devices, one as craned necks, one as leaning into one another
Working through some questions about highered, digital citizenship, mydigciz, privacy, publics, to work through some of my thoughts I joined this community after following HumanMOOC.
But when trying to start the conversation at my own institution or even in my personal life, Blunders at starting a conversation about digital identity or citizenship in higher ed.
