UNIVERSITY OF HARTFORD Center for Graduate
and Adult Academic Services
June 27, 2013
It is with great pleasure to support Steven Shelley. I have been Steven's supervisor for over 2 years in
the Department of Graduate Admissions at the University of Hartford, West Hartford, Connecticut.
Steven served as a Graduate Assistant in the selective Graduate Intern Administrative program. This
program has been designed by the Dean of Student's office to hire exceptional graduate students that
were recommended by their undergraduate faculty to work in professional capacities while matriculated
in their master's program.
Steven's master program was a Master of Science in Organizational Psychology (degree conferred May
2013). Courses such as Personnel Psychology, Motivation in the Workplace, Communication within
Organizations, Managerial Skills, Psychology Applied to the Workplace and Research/Statistical Analysis
round out his contemporary and realistic perceptions of the workplace. This office is multi-
generational, multi- national and interfaces with internal and external publics to service the mission at
the graduate level.
Steven has met these challenges with maturity beyond his years, wisdom of emotional intelligence and a
supportive role for those in the office as well as those seeking admission. He has always been willing to
pitch in when needed and has the athletic stamina to push through the workload during peak
application periods. He speaks very well on the phone and has solved many issues by sticking to the
task. Since I travel, Steven had no problems holding the fort and assumed responsibilities without
reservation.
Steven has trained and supervised work/study students, maintained the graduate website and social
networking marketing, attended graduate fairs as a representative of the university and assisted with
open houses. He often thinks of new procedures to improve services and is at his best helping people.
This position required heavy phone contact with prospective students from around the globe in which
he handled all conversations with a professional postur.e and empathic ear.
I wish him continued success and know that he will be an asset to your organization. I would be happy
to discuss Steven's role, respo 'bilities and characteristics with you.
