- So that’s a lot of places and partners. Where do I come in? I run a shop of “alignment specialists.” We are a small group, 6 fte, and anywhere form 4-8 grad students. We have diverse backgrounds, business, planning, economics, public administration. We make connections and build partnerships and initiatives, or run projects for companies, communities and agencies of all sizes from all parts of the Commonwealth. Extension service… College and institute AD’s for research and outreach… Special centers e.g. CDAC design, IPG non-profit management, CHPM small manufacturers Bottom line, individual faculty champions needed, intermediaries are there to help

- -For example in Region 2000, we’ve been with them since we answered a call back in the Warmer administration about finding seed money for collaborative research projects with energy and wireless firms in the region. (Story: Human capital legacy of Ericsson) Over time and after a series of projects that has grown into the Center for Advanced Engineering and Research which is a multi-million dollar facility and developing unique assets in wireless testing to suppor a 25 firm cluster of firms and early startups to second stage Launch place-VTKW/DRF Purcellville (2 examples) -We also finished a project last year with Volvo Trucks and a number of their supplier firms. This was a $1.7m federally-funded consortium where community leaders, our office, and partner faculty from engineering worked not , but small family firms as well. Our engineering faculty are helped them realize a new product idea. New products, new markets, new jobs.
