Criterion 3 NBA ug pharmacy understanding, setting and evaluating target level
1. NBA Criterion 3
full post mortem – Part I
For B. Pharm. Program as per PCI
syllabus, New Delhi
Ms. Snehal S. Chakorkar
(M. Pharm.)
Dr. Amit Gangwal
(M. Pharm., Ph. D. )1
2. Steps in Criterion 3
• Frame various COs according to PCI syllabus for
all semesters, all subjects. (3.1.1)
• Make CO-PO matrix (it means correlate above
COs with possible POs ranging from PO1 to
PO11). (3.1.2)
• For a perfect match with a particular PO, give 3
rating. For example if CO statement is perform
assay of aspirin tablet, then you have to give
rating as mentioned in next table.

4. • Likewise for a significant mapping award 2,
for a shallow matching give 1 or else 0 for no
correlation at all.
Steps in Criterion 3 continue…
Next step is to make a rational summary ,
why you mapped with a particular PO with
fullest or least marks (0 to 3)
4Dr.Amit Gangwal & Ms Snehal Chakorkar

PO1- This CO related with
pharmacy knowledge.
PO2- Practical techniques improves
planning ability.
PO3-By performing assay we can
solve the problem of impurity
PO4- We may use the software tools
to simplify the calculations.
PO11- Study of various techniques
of assay applied in pharmaceutical
industry for slifelong process.

12. What NBA Says

NBA Says
(3.2.2)
12Dr.Amit Gangwal & Ms Snehal Chakorkar
13. What does that mean ?
Understand from next table.
13Dr.Amit Gangwal & Ms Snehal Chakorkar
14. How to set target level ? (Exclusively for PCI pattern)
Set target level (Theory)
Internal (65%) External (55%)
After final calculations, its only 20 % will be
considered.
After final calculations, its only 80 % will be
considered.
These two will make 100 % and this will be called direct attainment.
Means 16 marks (that is 65 % of 25) Means 41 (that is 55 % of 75)
Now suppose your college has 60 students and all of them appeared in examinations then what will be the
scenario?
It means if 80% (48 students, that is 80% of 60) or more
that 80 % students score 16 or more marks then
attainment is said to 3.
It means if 80% (48 students, that is 80% of 60) or
more than 80% students score 41 or more marks
then attainment is said to 3.
It means if 70% (42 students, that is 70% of 60) students
score 16 or more marks then attainment is said to 2.
(>70<80)
It means if 70% (42 students, that is 70% of 60)
students score 41 or more marks then attainment is
said to 2. (>70<80)
It means if 60% (36 students, that is 60% of 60) students
score 16 or more marks then attainment is said to 1.
(>60<70)
It means if 60% (36 students, that is 60% of 60)
students score 41 or more marks then attainment is
said to 1. (>60<70)
It means if less than 60% (35 students) students score 16
or more marks then attainment is said to 0.
It means if less than 60% (35 students) students
score 41 or more marks then attainment is said to 0.

15. Table no.: 6: How to set target level ? (Exclusively for
PCI pattern)
Set target level (Practical )
Internal (65%) External (55%)
Means 10 marks (that is 65 % of 15) Means 19 (that is 55 % of 35)
Now suppose your college has 60 students and all of them appeared in examinations then what will be the
scenario?
It means if 80% (48 students, that is 80% of 60) or more
that 80 % students score 10 or more marks then
attainment is said to 3.
It means if 80% (48 students, that is 80% of 60) or
more than 80% students score 19 or more marks
then attainment is said to 3.
It means if 70% (42 students, that is 70% of 60)
students score 10 or more marks then attainment is
said to 2. (>70<80)
It means if 70% (42 students, that is 70% of 60)
students score 19 or more marks then attainment is
said to 2. (>70<80)
It means if 60% (36 students, that is 60% of 60)
students score 10 or more marks then attainment is said
to 1. (>60<70)
It means if 60% (36 students, that is 60% of 60)
students score 19 or more marks then attainment is
said to 1. (>60<70)
It means if less than 60% (35 students) students score 10
or more marks then attainment is said to 0.
It means if less than 60% (35 students) students
score 19 or more marks then attainment is said to 0.

16. Now here comes the crucial step of preparation
for calculation of attainment level using:
Direct assessment tools
(Take 80 %: refer table no 5 & 6)
Internal assessment tools
• Theory examination
• Practical examination
• Various continuous mode tools provided by PCI like
Quiz, Assignment, OBT, Seminar, GD and Field Trip
External assessment tools
• Theory examination
• Practical examination
Indirect assessment tools
(take only 20 %)
Various surveys/feedbacks like
• Parents
• Employers
• Exit
• Alumni
