Title : - COMPUTER - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
NAME :-SNEHA INGOLE
E-mail :- sneha9729i@gmail.com
 What is computer?
 Definition of computer
 History of computer
 Hardware component of computer
 Characteristics of computer
 C - Commonly
 O - Operating
 M - Machine
 P - Particularly
 U - Used For
 T - Technical &
 E - Educational
 R - Research
 A computer is a machine able to take a information,
do some work or make changes to the information to
make new information(output).
 In other words computer is a electronic machine
which helps solving problem quickly and easily, it
solve problem according to the instruction given to it
by the computer user.
 Computer is developed by Charles Babbage between
the year 1833-1871.
Father of computer :- Charles Babbage
 The history of computer begins with the birth of abacus which is
believed to be the first computer. It is said that Chinese invented
Abacus around 4,000 years ago.
 It was a wooden rack which has metal rods with beads mounted
on them. The beads were moved by the abacus operator
according to some rules to perform arithmetic calculations.
Abacus is still used in some countries like China, Russia and
Japan. An image of this tool is shown below;
 CPU :-
The heart of computer in which the component actually execute
the instruction.
 Memory:-
Memory enable the computer to store at list temporarily data
and program.
 Input Device:-
An Input device is any piece of computer hardware which I
used to provide data and control signals at an information
processing system such as computer or other appliances.
Examples of I/O devices includes keyboard, Mouse, Scanner,
digital cameras, etc.
 Output Device :-
An output device is any piece of computer hardware
equipments used to communicate result of data processing
carried out by information processing system such as
computer which converts the electrically generated to
human reliable form .
Example :- monitor ,printers, etc.
 Mass Storage devices:-
Common mass devices includes disk drives and pen-drives.
Every computer requires a bus connection that transmit
data from one part of computer to another.
 Word length :- A digital computer operates on binary digit 0 and 1 so it can understand information only terms of 0’s and 1’s.
A binary digit is called bit and a group of bits is called bytes. A no. of bits that a computer can process at a time in parallel is
called its word length. Commonly used word length are 8,16,32,64 bits.
 Speed :- Computer can calculate at very high speed , it execute millions of instruction per second and over again without any
mistake as power computer increases, speed increases , supercomputer can operate at a speed measures in nanosecond
Example:- 1000 -1 million times faster than micro computers
 Storage :- A computer can stored a large amount of data storage capacity of computer is virtually unlimited. It require the
information that a user wants in a few second. Capacity of strong and retrieving used amount of data in fast insufficient
manner is one of the most characteristics computer.
Example :- Dictionary
 Versatility :- (CAPABLE OF DOING MANY THINGS). Computers are capable of doing many things at a time that computer
can communicate with each other computer and can send and receive data in various form like text, sound, video, graphics,
etc. Today we can send email to people all around the world. We can now live in connected world and all this are possible
because of computer and other related technology.
 Automation:- Computer can be program to perform series of complex tasks involving multiple program. They will execute
program in correct sequence, they will switch on and off machine at the appropriate types.
 Diligence:- Diligence means being constant human being suffers from weakness, tiredness, etc. Human being have feelings ,
they become sad depressed , board into depression and lose the concentration, whether it is the first time or the millions of time
, they will work with exactly the same accuracy and speed.
