Editor's Notes
East and South are safe directions. They take them directly to the next challenge. North and West are the dangerous ones. They will survive both, but going North gives them a 1/6 chance of losing an item, and going West gives them a 2/6 chance of losing an item.
Piece of cake if they have a knife or a crowbar. If they have to roll, there is a 1/6 chance of losing an item and a 1/6 chance of dying.
No problem for a team that has a lighter. Maybe the helmet and/or the life jacket will be enough, that’s up to you. Once I even had a kid tell me he could make a friction fire with the rope. If they have to roll, there is a 50% chance they will catch a cold. If they catch a cold and didn’t bring the medicine, they’re history.
Going after the rabbit is the safer choice. If they have to roll there is a 1/6 chance they will lose an item, but they will always survive. If they go after the snake and have to roll, there is a 50% chance they will be bitten. If they get bitten and didn’t bring the medicine, they’re history.
I’ve had kids tell me they can use the rope to get quickly up a tree. For me, it’s kind of a hard sell to say the blankets will keep them safe. If they have to roll, there is a 2/6 chance they will lose an item and a 1/6 chance they will die.
Many of the items can be used to slide down the rope the same way. If they have to roll, there is a 1/6 chance they will lose an item and a 2/6 chance they will die.
The iPhone has a flashlight function they can use, but otherwise I haven’t heard anything to solve this one. If they have to roll, there is a 2/6 chance they will lose an item and a 1/6 chance they will die.
I have never once had anyone take the pillow on the first go around.
The blankets, the helmet, and maybe even the life jacket can all be used in basically the same way as the pillow. If they have to roll, there is a 2/6 chance they will lose an item and a 1/6 chance they will die.
The left button is the safe one. The other two cause the room to catch fire.
I’ve allowed students to say they would beat the fire out with the blankets or use the crowbar to get the door open. If they have to roll, there is a 1/6 chance that they will lose an item and a 2/6 chance they will die.
I’ve had students say that fire extinguishers float and they can use it to hold onto. I had no idea if that is true, so I had to allow it. One of my favorite answers ever is that they had special medicine that would give them extra energy. If they have to roll, there is a 2/6 chance they will lose an item and a 1/6 chance they will die.
There is a 50-50 chance whether they will get the party boat and win the instant victory, or the pirate boat. If they get the pirate boat, they better have held onto that iPhone…
