PROJECTS
An Assistive Navigational Device for the Blind and the Visually Impaired Aug 2015 - Sep 2016
Designed a standalone device to assist blind people with navigation. Wrote firmware for wireless communication
of data using nRF24L01+ (2.4GHz Wireless RF Transceiver) and Arduino Mega 2560 interfaced via Serial
Peripheral Interface (SPI). Provided voice commands to the blind utilizing Bluetooth terminal Android app,
HC-05 Bluetooth module and Google Talkback feature. Optimized power consumption using sleep modes.
Technologies: Arduino Mega 2560, nRF24l01+, HC-05 Bluetooth module, SPI, Android App
Structural Health Monitoring and Damage Localization in Composite Material July 2016 – Aug 2016
Generated a 5 cycle Hanning wave using AD9106 DAC/waveform generator board. Generated clock signals for
the AD9106 using Si570 I2
C Programmable Crystal Oscillator. Excited Piezo-electric sensors, attached to
metal body, using the Hanning wave generated. Analysed the frequency and wavelet transform of the acquired
echo and located internal damages and cracks in metal bodies.
Technologies: AD9106, Si570, MATLAB
Vehicle Classification, Speed and Direction Detection May 2015
Designed a module with MSP430 kit to find the speed and direction of moving vehicles and to classify them.
Wrote firmware using ENERGIA to collect and log data from HMC5883 (3-Axis Magnetic sensor).
Implemented algorithms in MATLAB to analyse sensor data and classify vehicles according to their size.
Technologies: ENERGIA, MATLAB, MSP430, HMC5883
Automatic Circuit Component Detection Dec 2014
Designed an Image Processing module for detecting resistor, capacitor and battery in an electronic circuit using
MATLAB. Trained the system using 25 images of each component and generated Fourier descriptors for feature
extraction. Classified components using Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. Increased detection
efficiency using Adaptive thresholding algorithms.
Technologies: MATLAB, SVM, Fourier Descriptors
Emulation of a PLC using Computer Vision Jan 2014 - May 2014
Designed an Emulated PLC module using PC, Camera, LEDs and LDRs. The state of the switches and relays
were determined by real time image processing using MATLAB. Implemented on-off functionality of a PLC
and tested the bi-directional operation of a DC motor using L293d (Motor Driver IC).
