ashion. It is a word that brings plenty of visuals into our
Fminds. The outfits, the glitz, the glitter and glamour. It
is an industry that packs in plenty of entertainment, all
while introducing new trends, styles, colors and more that
people can take inspiration from for their daily lives. Ever
since the concept of clothing came into existence humans
have evolved to include patterns and prints.
The first ever attire being either leaves strung together or the
fur of animals. It is indeed interesting to know how simple
inventions such as a needle and a thread can bring such an
evolution and create an industry specially dedicated to it. It is
also known that as time went by and the era of nobles and
royals came in, there was a shift in attire from being plain to
implementing designs with beads and shimmery threads.
This eventually came to be known as embroidery and this is
where designers came in. Every person within the royalty
needed specific designs and designs on their attire which
was done by exclusive designers that they had.
Today this concept has evolved into fashion designers, who
have been the backbone of every outfit and trends so far.
Every fabric of their work, revolved around ensuring that
people natural feel good in what they wear, which
simultaneously builds up their confidence.
Today, unlike the past people have varied tastes in fashion
and dress according to various factors. The wardrobes are
always divided into the color scheme, pattern, occasion,
weather and various other such specifications.
This month, Insights Success has come up with a special
issue Majestic Fashion Designers of 2019. A majority of the
fashion industry does believe in good looks, but one
company would love to differ.
Thus, we have featured Diva Modeling Agency for our cover.
The Founder, Nicole Rodriguess speaks of how being a
model in not limited to certain characteristics. She believes
that with proper guidance, anyone can be a model.

London College of Fashion, KOEFIA and Chelsea
College of Arts to take their knowledge and

Apart from this, every year JD organizes its ‘JD
Annual Design Awards’ a platform for its students
to showcase their innovations, creativity, and
design sense in front of key industrial players.
The award show presents the journey of the
students in the culmination of a final
collection/product which tests all that they have
learned during the tenure of their course. The
journey from concept to creation tests the
students’ ability to take forward their vision, in a
constructive and analytical manner with the help
from their respective mentors.
Students are also given access to unlimited
opportunities to stretch their creativity to the
maximum and enhance their potential by the
Institute. For instance, recently, JD partnered with
Times Fashion Week and Bengaluru by Design,
hence giving much practical exposure to them to

very individual works towards seeking the
limelight in one way or another, one of the
most prominent paths chosen being
modeling. The dedication and determination
required to rise to the pinnacle is a challenge in
itself, which only few can get through. In an
Interview with Insights Success, Debojit
Bhattacharya – Rubaru Mr.India 2017 winner of
Mr. Grand International, speaks about his journey,
challenges, perks and more.
1: Could you give us an overview of your journey
in the fashion/ modelling industry?
A: Well, I really enjoyed my journey in the fashion

industry. Though there were many ups
and downs but yes it was really very
amazing. I look back from where I come
from and I'm really proud of what I have
achieved and I also believe there are
many more achievements to come in
the future.
2: How do you intend to encourage
participation in pageants?
A: Well, pageants really give us a
platform to showcase our talent.
Perhaps participating in a pageant is a
great way to come into the limelight. So,
anyone who wants to come into the
limelight, I would strongly recommend
him/her to participate in a good
pageant from where they can start their
journey towards the fashion industry.
3: Could you tell us more about
yourself and your inspiration
throughout this journey?
A: I come from a very small town so it
was very difficult for me to travel to
Guwahati city to persuade modeling. I
had to travel every weekend to Guwahati
to attend modeling/grooming classes.
Simultaneously I also couldn't effort to
miss my college classes. I believed
where there is a will, there is a way.
This is how I made my entrance into the
fashion world and the rest is history.
4: Kindly give us a glimpse into what it
takes to be a part of a global
competition such as Mr.India Grand
International?
A: I participated in Rubaru Mr. India
2017 contest where I won the title of
Mr. Grand International. It was a tough
competition because all the participants
belonging from the rest of India were
equally good and challenging. My
determination got me the title and then I
got a chance to represent India in the
world title held in the Philippines.
5: How do you manage to combine
freelance modelling with other career

A: a) I'm always into fitness, doesn't
matter where I am or how busy I am.

in the fashion and modelling?
A: There were many challenges. I
accepted those challenges positively
and it helped me to grow in life.
Challenges make us stronger. We
should understand the fact that the
harder the challenge, the more level up
we go in life.
8: What do you believe lies in the future
of the fashion/ modelling industry?
A: There are many opportunities in the
fashion/modeling industry. One has to
be fit, hardworking and have visions. We
have many examples of models who
have made it bigger and better. We
should follow them and yes please
never ever give up.
9: What is and who is Debojit in
personal apart from ramp apart from
camera?
A: I'm a very simple and fun-loving
person. You can always see me having
fun with my friends. I'm very down to
earth and I enjoy sharing laughter. I'm
very humble, always chasing greatness

1. Could you give us an overview of
your journey in the fashion industry?
It was forever my high school dream to
turn into an expert model and these
were the days I fulfilled my fantasy. I
used to envision the street as a ramp
and any platform as a major stage.
I like moving and displaying a ton as it's
my obsession. So in the wake of getting
hitched, I got a strong family who
bolstered me to arrive at this stage. I
started my adventures with diva
exhibitions and won Mrs. Beauty with
Purpose. I was the only plus-sized
candidate with 31 slim competitors
alongside me. I nailed it and made an
imprint on the jury's minds.
So from that day, I chose to step into
the design industry and continue
developing. And, I chose to 'Grow and
Glow.'
2. How do you intend to encourage
participation in pageants among
youngsters?
As a young woman, I always viewed
beauty pageants as the antithesis of
encouragement when it comes to
making someone feel beautiful. My
humble expectation from them is to
promote the nation positively on an
International platform to the best of
their ability. Partaking in excellent
shows is an accomplishment in itself. It
takes immense boldness and assurance
to be a part of nearby or universal
expos. Numerous magnificence events
help members grandstand their abilities,
assemble certainty and face the general
population. To win a delight show is a
matter of incredible esteem just as an
obligation towards them. They gain
acclaim and prominence and turn into
an open personality. It encourages the
young to voice their own decision and
consider themselves to be developed,

solid, and free individuals throughout
the years.
This is all I get them to know and help
them understand in the easiest way

3. Could you tell us more about
yourself and your inspiration
throughout this journey?
I’m a dreamer who wishes to achieve
my dreams anyhow and so I did. Being a
plus-size model, I get to listen to many
hate comments but apart from that my
confidence is what brings the best
positive attitude in me and I find
success in all my events. While being in
a pageant, I learned that people can
either be destructive or supportive. The
biggest takeaway to keep in mind,
however, is none of it matters if you
don't believe in yourself. Being in a
pageant teaches you to be confident
and to love yourself regardless of the
way that others see you. It helped me
become confident while learning to
accept myself, in every aspect, just the
way I am.
4. Kindly give us a glimpse into what it
takes to be a part of a global
competition?
According to me, all you need is to be a
beauty with brains. And by the beauty, I
not only mean your looks but your inner
beauty as well. The person you're at
heart matters. The second thing you
need is confidence and friendship but
be that as it may, in general, you need to
consider how stunning and a different
measure of character you've been as a
person.
5. How do you manage to combine
freelance modeling with other career
prospects?
It is correctly said women are multi-
talented. Yes, we are multi-talented and
are constantly multi-tasking. So I am
like everyone, I’m a wife, a mother, a
daughter a businesswoman and a
model. I know how to manage all my
roles and we women always try to bring
out our best.
On the off chance that you're an
independent model, you're speaking for
yourself and are completely liable for
finding and booking your work. One
significant favorable position of
verifying your work isn't separating your
profit with your organization. This way
you will be know everything about the
activity.
6. Please to tell us 5 interesting facts
about yourself.
• I am always happy and charming.
That’s the first impression anyone
gets after meeting me. But if you
know me, then I am a kid in this adult
body.
• I am a foodie. What I like most, first I
learn to cook and I keep cooking until
I get bored of eating. I can go
anywhere and spend money for good
food.
• I am proud to say that I have no
Musically and Dubsmash apps
installed in my phone.(I borrow
someone else's if I want to kill my
time, just kidding).
• Though I'm short tempered, I can
make anyone smile in a blink. If I
show only my humorous side to you,
that means you are not close to me.
• And lastly I'm a joyful, confident, cute
and a happy go lucky person.
7. What are the challenges did you face
in the fashion
The challenges as such not many, but of
course there are a few. There is a lot of
difference between plus-size models
and zero size models so slim models
are given more importance in the
fashion industry. But with the passing of
time, even plus-size models are getting
more work and importance in this
industry. A few challenges like
establishing oneself as a plus-size
model to society take lots of effort and
guts. These are the only things we need
to prove.
8. What do you believe lies in the future
of the fashion industry?
I believe that the fashion industry and
design business is inclined towards
advancements and maintainability
along with a blend of motivation and
innovation. It may turn out to be less
unsafe for our planet. A couple of
quickening patterns like 3D printing, the
enlarged reality of try-on, customized
fashion, and on-demand production will
change the eventual fate of the industry.
E-commerce will soon become the
dominant force and it will enable many
new brands to come out of nowhere,
with very little infrastructure and still
make money.
The industry has been constantly
evolving and there is a huge bouquet of
designers and creative people who are
getting into this industry every day. The
fashion world is currently chasing
technology, innovation and
sustainability.

and at some point it's true. My experience in
this industry is quite negative. Agencies,
Directors, Models all are running over money,
outer beauty very few I can say I saw who are
genuine ones.
2. How do you intend to encourage
participation in pageants among youngsters?
Last year I went through huge emotional
trauma, those fear emptiness, bad days and
humiliate made me to believe in self love, self
awareness and encouraged my thoughts to
participate in Miss Ultimate Diva 2019
3. Could you tell us more about yourself and
your inspiration throughout this journey?
Once in a lifetime, one should experience
huge loss then and then a person changes.
Pain changes a person a lot. I started valuing
time, patience, change, control terms a lot.
Basically, I'm a very sweet and bubbly girl with
numb feelings yet I can be still water as well
as a hurricane at the same time.
4. Kindly give us a glimpse into what it takes
to be a part of a global competition such as
Miss Ultimate Diva 2019?
According to my understanding, the most
important thing is the confidence and courage
to pursue your dream and support. The
secondary is your outer physique, features,
and network you build.
5. How do you manage to combine freelance
modelling with other career prospects?
By God's grace, I'm a very organized and
balanced kind of person. I never find it hard to
manage multiple things until and unless I
want it. I was prepared for all the hardship
and hustle until I prove myself that I'm
something in this World.

1. Could you give us an overview of your
journey in the fashion/photo-shoot industry?
I have been into photography since my school
time, where I operated a roll camera (no
digital display) as well. Now I am having a
mirror-less camera. Along with engineering I
was doing photography and earning enough.
So I started my firm by the name "Shrikant
Randhave Photography". My main forte is in
Portraits. Off late I also handle Fashion,
Industrial, Weddings, Interior, portfolios, and
product photography.

2. How do you intend to encourage participation in pageants/events among youngsters?
I have just one answer to this. No one is in charge of your happiness and no one owes to your passion so just
think about what you want to be. If you prefer to be in the glamour industry camera is the best solution for you.
3. Could you tell us more about yourself and your inspiration throughout this journey?
I was a Software engineer but now work as a professional photographer. I think Photography is in my blood. My
father is a drawing teacher in school and side by he was doing photography. Consequently, the talent for
photography comes from him.

4. How do you manage to combine freelance photography with other career
prospects?
I go ahead with season-wise photography and don't get stuck to a particular sector
whether its wildlife photography, wedding, and pre-wedding shoots, ramp walks,
nature, social work. Moreover, my career is just photography nothing else.
5. Please to tell us 5 interesting facts about yourself.
Born with talent, a good observer, good listener, updating myself as per challenges
in photography, always happy with great
smile on my face. All these factors
make me the ideal photographer.
6. What are the challenges did you face
in the fashion/ photography?
Initially, I was an engineer so making a
career in photography was a big
challenge. Getting a contract with lots
of talented photographers, investing in
costly equipment for photography and
not getting paid until final product
delivery are just a few of them.
Updating with new changes in the
photography world as well as in myself
is something I believe in.
7. What do you believe lies in the future
of the fashion/photography industry?
Yes, the photography industry is
booming and will continue to rise in the
future as well. Its a talent after all.
Everyone requires images or
photographs which is why I think there
is a future in it. But, we need to equally
adapt and change to be able to sustain.
Running things the way they always
have been will almost certainly
guarantee failure. This is a difficult pill
to swallow because most humans like
to keep things as they are. We are
resistant to change, but learning to
adapt is likely to be crucial to survival in
an ever-increasingly saturated market.
This certainly isn't meant to sound like a
negative article, but rather observing,
learning and making sure we are aware
of the changes around us. It's often so
easy to get lost when you are too close
to the forest to see the trees. It's an
elephant in the room that many
photographers don't wish to discuss,
but I feel that being aware is a vital
element to continued success.

Aanchal & Sanjana most enjoyed
designing a collection called ‘Amotan’,
inspired from the famous art
mockumentary “Treasures from the Wreck
of the Unbelievable” by Damien Hirst.
They took the ship wreck & archeological
fantasy creating an all blue hue collection
with antique details inspired by the
oceanic drowned treasures.
In other collections, the designers’ have
highlighted the handcrafted, organic and
reflective art installations by Artist
Joachim Sauter. Using his ‘TRI’
installation as inspiration the twins have
created a geometrically inspired
collection derived from the interplay of
reflective triangles and overlapping
shadows in the piece.
Furthermore the designer’s have taken a
dive down history lane creating pieces
inspired by the eruption of Mount
Vesuvius leading to the destruction of the
ancient city of Pompeii, the Trojan war
and even the British Vintage Circus.
It is these interesting themes that help the
twins create a unique space for designing
garments reflecting their own

What initially started as a passion, gave

Speaking of collections including her
latest one, Maheka states, “Every
collection is special to me and is unique
in its own way. Every collection has a
different inspiration. My latest one is
titled Untold Stories.”
Elaborating on Untold Stories
Every couture collection has something
that stands apart from the others. Many
factors inspire them and with Untold
Stories it’s all about time. In Maheka’s
words, it sparks from a time gone by
and memories so dear. So delicate, yet
so potent. This collection is focused on
Indian accents and combines various
elements to bring out the best in it. It
portrays the moment where the
designer’s mind captured the artistic
vision. One that has now become
embedded in the very fabric of Untold
Stories.
The prime emphasis for this collection
is placed on every piece having
originality and also reflects innovation.
There is a flow of lyrical poesy and
every outfit reflects style, elegance,
sensuality as well as sophistication.
The brand consistently works on
revitalizing classic designs but by giving
an urbane touch.
The colour scheme that is used in the
attire belonging to the collection mostly
reflects an Indian twist. Some of the
popular shades are sophisticated
pastels to earthy palettes and cherry
reds with indigos, blacks, pale pinks,
ivories, ecru, silvers, greys and
champagnes.
The fabric is the key element that can
either make or break any outfit.
Maheka’s brand thus implements
fabrics that are both delicate and tough
as well. Some of them in trend this
season are – rough spuns like jute to
the finest muslin, silks, Chanderis – a
traditional fabric that is lightweight and
has a sheer texture, taffetas and
lehariyas – a material that uses tie dye
technique to create wave like patterns
across it. Every fabric goes through a
long process of being crafted with the
finest details, and Maheka’s collections
constantly reflect authentic Indian
design.
The use of thread work, mirror work,
Gota Patti – an embroidery technique
where fabric is sewn to create elaborate
patterns. Chikankari (a
technique that originated
in Lucknow) and Phulkari
(which literally means
flower work), pleating, are
the various textures
beautifies an outfit
further. Defining the
collection is also the
amalgamation of Indian
silhouettes with a
western touch. The shape
and cut are well defined
and made on an
anatomical analysis
which creates a
harmonious visual effect.
This effectively
counterbalances both the
broad and the narrow
within the same outfit.
The entire collection
follows a delicate draping
method which when
styled with grace and
elegance translates into
feminine styles. The
silhouettes have volume
implemented into them
and project a couture-like,
majestic and aristocratic
appearance.
The final outputs of the
long yet splendid design
process are shararas,
long kurtas, flouncy skirts, short choli
blouses, and sarees. Statement pieces
such as shawl like dupattas are a huge

leep is an extremely important function for
humans, even more so for children. This is a
time of relaxation, healing, and growth. It is
hence extremely important to ensure that kids get
the rest they deserve. This is where the outfits also

comfortable in the fabric they’re wearing, will they

ensuring the children sleep soundly is Peekaboo.
A homegrown brand, it took around 3-4 years for
the idea to develop and a year more to finally
establish its presence online. The prime reason for
the company to be founded was the Founder,
Poonam’s son whose skin was sensitive which is
why she found it difficult to find the right kind of
clothing for him. She wanted to ensure that any
material used had to be the right blend of quality
and design when it primarily came to sleepwear.
With prior experience with global brands dealing
with kids’ apparel, Poonam was well aware of the
quality standards that she had been looking for in
factors such as design, aesthetics, workmanship,
and comfort. The online store was also a result of
the lack of easy availability of kid’s sleepwear.

Making a Difference as a
“Mompreneur”
With over a decade of experience in
design, merchandising, production
planning, quality control, and logistics,
Poonam Naik Desai created an identity
for herself as the founder and creative
director of Peekaboo. The work she
handled in her life was the core reason
for her confidence which led to her
taking the plunge as a “mompreneur”.
Being a hands-on mother to her son
Agastya, it was a challenge in the initial
few days to build up the work-life
balance. But, eventually, it was fulfilling
and rewarding and gave Poonam a
sense of accomplishment. The
concepts and ideas that were on paper
were slowly seeing the light of day and
earning praise and appreciation alike.
It wasn’t an instantaneous process, but
she learned gradually that the business
required passion as well as patience in
equal or more measure. It was a
learning process just like any new
venture. Another main factor that
immensely helped was the support
Poonam received from her husband,
parents, and brother. Due to this, she
could give enough time to build
Peekboo and nurture it. This also played
to Poonam’s advantage as she was able
to spend plenty of time with her son and
more importantly in his formative years.
This has also provided her with a
learning experience of managing time
while setting priorities for the day.
Elaborating on the Concept and Design
As a mother, Poonam has first-hand
experience in the design concepts that
are apt for the little ones. They need to
be fun and bring a smile onto the face
of the child while knowing that mothers
can trust the quality of the outfit. Her
inspirations come from everyday life
and things around her which her son
may seem attracted to. Speaking more
about the concepts behind her design,
she says, “My little one is attracted to
his toys, a story, a character, a song,
basically his current obsession.
Sometimes it’s while traveling one is
struck with an idea or a concept, it could
be some random artwork which seems
relatable. It could be nature while
playing in the park, or walking on the
beach. One can never say!”
She also states that India has no dearth
of indigenous designs that are enough
to be an inspiration in themselves. The

plethora of festivals and rituals, bring
out various colors and patterns that act
like an outfit idea. Every one of these is
then shortlisted followed by being
turned into concepts. The designing
team then works on its future to create
a mood board, follows it up with the
artwork and CAD. The designs are then
further shortlisted to be researched
upon for the ideal color pattern and
trends that have been forecasted for
that particular season. The ones that do
not make the cut are struck off and the
rest are turned into samples. These help
in visualization of what the final product
may look like and is ranked by the team
of designers along with Poonam. Upon
coming to a unanimous decision, the
most favored designs or the ones with a
higher rating go-ahead to the final
processing stage. This has ensured that
the brand stays relevant and ensures a
high level of quality.
Challenges Faced and Unique Factors
Every brand that comes up in the
industry goes through a lot of
challenges that act as a catalyst to
boost their value in the market.
Peekaboo also faced challenges where
they had to ensure the right quality and
feel of fabric, develop prints and colors
which are lead-free. Additionally, they
also had to help in minimizing the
carbon footprint along with providing
greater value at a competitive price
range with a short production run. The
brand has a strong belief in all its
products while keeping its positive
attitude close by. This helped them
maneuver their initial hurdles better and
initiated the development of their online
store where it stands today. Speaking of
the company, Poonam says, “It is still
the beginning and we are aware we have
a long way to go, especially as
responsible global citizens. We are
working on making our products
essentially more sustainable by adding
organic quality of cotton to the product
mix along with eco-friendly natural fibers
and blends like bamboo and soy.” The
acceptance of the various challenges
that may come their way has been
helping them take one step at a time
towards growth.
Future Plans for Designs
Peekaboo plans to work on
collaborations with artists which will
help in bringing a mixture of art into
their designs even though these plans
are still in the nascent stage. As they
primarily work on children’s sleepwear,
they have to make sure and be careful
that the ethos of the segment isn’t
disturbed.

Creation of an Exceptional Concept
The company usually rents high-end
designer outfits for men and women for
a 4 day period. They also do 8 day
rentals for personal and family
weddings in case clients require it. The
customers can rent clothes as well as
jewelery. It is the only rental platform
that ships pan India with no cap on pin
codes. The clothes are either outright
bought or there is a tie- up with owners
of these chic garments on a profit
sharing model (30-50% of each
garment, every single time it goes on
rent). All logistics such as dry cleaning,
marketing, photoshoots are handled by
the company and the rental amount is
usually between 8-10% of the retail
value of the garment.
Garments are custom fit along with a
network of established stylists that help
curate full looks instead of just renting
an outfit. They also have an in house
label called Stylease Exclusive where
they produce and rent one of a kind
exclusive pieces. The average price
point of these outfits is between 4500
to 6500 for a 4 day rental period.
A Fashion Superstar Leading a Cause
Jheal Shah and her family have been in
the fashion industry for a long time
which has indeed been an advantage for
them. Her mother is a fashion designer
and so is her sister. They’ve always
been a big fashion-oriented family and
seeing her mother work in this industry
for the last 20+ years had a big impact
on Jheal as she grew up. After acquiring
a masters in Fashion Marketing from
Parsons in New York, she moved back
to India and worked with her mother
amongst other fashion and non-fashion
companies for the next few years to
understand how businesses in India
function and run. Having stayed in
London and America for close to 7
years, she had first-hand experienced
this business model abroad and loved
the idea of creating a fashion company
with a strong focus on building a more
sustainable world for our future
generations.

The Stylease was formed by Jheal Shah who has done her BSc (Hons) in
Biology from University of Warwick, UK; AAS in Fashion Marketing from
Parsons the New School for Design, New York, USA and has had the
opportunity of having worked with Tommy Hilfiger, Armani Exchange, Bank
of America, Times of India. She, therefore, brings forth tremendous work
experience from several sectors and companies and has successfully
launched The Stylease. She is responsible for branding, strategy, business
development, finance and marketing amongst other things.
Utilization of Technology to Upgrade Fashion
The Stylease is working towards incorporating technology in their business
every day. They include finding a way to take virtual measurements using
images from the comfort of your home to improving technology for logistics
so they can become carbon neutral and forward their sustainability motto.

inspired by current trends and runway
shows as well as celebrity looks that

sustainable fashion is the future of the

It is an industry that packs in plenty of entertainment, all while introducing new trends, styles, colors and more that people can take inspiration from for their daily lives. Ever since the concept of clothing came into existence humans have evolved to include patterns and prints. The first ever attire being either leaves strung together or the fur of animals. It is indeed interesting to know how simple inventions such as a needle and a thread can bring such an evolution and create an industry specially dedicated to it. It is also known that as time went by and the era of nobles and royals came in, there was a shift in attire from being plain to implementing designs with beads and shimmery threads. This eventually came to be known as embroidery and this is where designers came in. Every person within the royalty needed specific designs and designs on their attire which was done by exclusive designers that they had. Today this concept has evolved into fashion designers, who have been the backbone of every outfit and trends so far. Every fabric of their work, revolved around ensuring that people natural feel good in what they wear, which simultaneously builds up their confidence. Today, unlike the past people have varied tastes in fashion and dress according to various factors. The wardrobes are always divided into the color scheme, pattern, occasion, weather and various other such specifications. This month, Insights Success has come up with a special issue Majestic Fashion Designers of 2019. A majority of the fashion industry does believe in good looks, but one company would love to differ. A: I come from a very small town so it was very difficult for me to travel to Guwahati city to persuade modeling. I had to travel every weekend to Guwahati to attend modeling/grooming classes. Simultaneously I also couldn't effort to miss my college classes. I believed where there is a will, there is a way. This is how I made my entrance into the fashion world and the rest is history. 4: Kindly give us a glimpse into what it takes to be a part of a global competition such as Mr.India Grand International? A: I participated in Rubaru Mr. India 2017 contest where I won the title of Mr. Grand International. It was a tough competition because all the participants belonging from the rest of India were equally good and challenging. My determination got me the title and then I got a chance to represent India in the world title held in the Philippines. 5: How do you manage to combine freelance modelling with other career prospects? A: Well, I think it's not a very tough job. If you believe in yourself and you think it is important, you will always find time for it. For me, time is very important and I manage it very tactfully. Henceforth I could manage several things at the same time. One has to be a multi-tasker, and versatile indeed. 6: Please to tell us 5 interesting facts about yourself. So in the wake of getting hitched, I got a strong family who bolstered me to arrive at this stage. I started my adventures with diva exhibitions and won Mrs. Beauty with Purpose. I was the only plus-sized candidate with 31 slim competitors alongside me. I nailed it and made an imprint on the jury's minds. So from that day, I chose to step into the design industry and continue developing. And, I chose to 'Grow and Glow.' 2. How do you intend to encourage participation in pageants among youngsters? As a young woman, I always viewed beauty pageants as the antithesis of encouragement when it comes to making someone feel beautiful. My humble expectation from them is to promote the nation positively on an International platform to the best of their ability. Partaking in excellent shows is an accomplishment in itself. It takes immense boldness and assurance to be a part of nearby or universal expos. Numerous magnificence events help members grandstand their abilities, assemble certainty and face the general population. While being in a pageant, I learned that people can either be destructive or supportive. The biggest takeaway to keep in mind, however, is none of it matters if you don't believe in yourself. Being in a pageant teaches you to be confident and to love yourself regardless of the way that others see you. According to me, all you need is to be a beauty with brains. And by the beauty, I not only mean your looks but your inner beauty as well. The person you're at heart matters. How do you manage to combine freelance modeling with other career prospects? It is correctly said women are multi- talented. Yes, we are multi-talented and are constantly multi-tasking. So I am like everyone, I’m a wife, a mother, a daughter a businesswoman and a model. I know how to manage all my roles and we women always try to bring out our best. But with the passing of time, even plus-size models are getting more work and importance in this industry. A few challenges like establishing oneself as a plus-size model to society take lots of effort and guts. These are the only things we need to prove. 8. What do you believe lies in the future of the fashion industry? I believe that the fashion industry and design business is inclined towards advancements and maintainability along with a blend of motivation and innovation. It may turn out to be less unsafe for our planet. Making a Difference as a “Mompreneur” With over a decade of experience in design, merchandising, production planning, quality control, and logistics, Poonam Naik Desai created an identity for herself as the founder and creative director of Peekaboo. The work she handled in her life was the core reason for her confidence which led to her taking the plunge as a “mompreneur”. Being a hands-on mother to her son Agastya, it was a challenge in the initial few days to build up the work-life balance. But, eventually, it was fulfilling and rewarding and gave Poonam a sense of accomplishment. The concepts and ideas that were on paper were slowly seeing the light of day and earning praise and appreciation alike. It wasn’t an instantaneous process, but she learned gradually that the business required passion as well as patience in equal or more measure. It was a learning process just like any new venture. Another main factor that immensely helped was the support Poonam received from her husband, parents, and brother. Due to this, she could give enough time to build Peekboo and nurture it. A Fashion Superstar Leading a Cause Jheal Shah and her family have been in the fashion industry for a long time which has indeed been an advantage for them. Her mother is a fashion designer and so is her sister. They’ve always been a big fashion-oriented family and seeing her mother work in this industry for the last 20+ years had a big impact on Jheal as she grew up. After acquiring a masters in Fashion Marketing from Parsons in New York, she moved back to India and worked with her mother amongst other fashion and non-fashion companies for the next few years to understand how businesses in India function and run. Having stayed in London and America for close to 7 years, she had first-hand experienced this business model abroad and loved the idea of creating a fashion company with a strong focus on building a more sustainable world for our future generations.
