Classroom Observation Techniques
1. Reflective Journal Week 5
Har Ber High School
I went to Har Ber High School for classroom observation and presentation about my country. I observed
in several classrooms, and I learned different techniques employed by those teachers. My peer teacher
was a Chinese teacher. She made good use of technology with her students. Students could see colorful
pictures and videos during the lesions. I think that I will use this technique in my classroom because I
found it was interesting and engaging students learning. In addition, she played role as a good facilitator.
Another good thing about her classroom is that she creates good rapport with students. For instant, she
called her students ‘friend’. It seems informal but students like teachers. The classroom environment is a
good that students could personalize their learning styles. They can sit alone, in pair, or in group. Beside
Chinese class, I went to reading class and I found it very practical, and I can adapt it into my classroom.
The teacher taught English to Spanish students who do not speak English. She handed students many
short story books and student had to read learn new vocabularies. Students studied the stories and
vocabulary at the same time. Another good thing is that teacher does not usually give homework to
students to do at home. Instead, teacher assign the task for students to complete the classroom. The most
important think that I learned from Har Ber is life skill. Students there can expose to many kinds of
extracurriculars such as sports, music, theatre, gym, mechanic, and so on. Students learn both hard skills
and soft skills at the same time. I hope that I will be able to introduce some aspects of the program in
school in my home country.
