7. DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE)
CCSD GUIDELINES
• MEET WITH HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR TO BEGIN
PROCESS
• SUBMIT CCSD DUAL ENROLLMENT PARTICIPATION FORM
• APPLY TO THE COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY
• IF ACCEPTED, SUBMIT DE FUNDING APPLICATION
The Dual Enrollment program (formerly known as Move On When Ready/ACCEL) is a state-funded
program for high school students (public, private, and approved home-study) that provides tuition
assistance in GA. Students take college classes in lieu of high school classes and earn both high
school graduation requirements and college credit simultaneously. Coursework is performed at a
participating college – and students must adhere to that college’s rules and school schedule.
THINGS TO CONSIDER FOR DE
PROGRAM
• May reduce cost of college
• Doesn’t tap into HOPE
• Have to take 4 DE courses to be Full-
time
• Only meet 2-4 times per week/per
course
• College classes typically have fewer
grades
• Only 3-4 major grades per semester
• Not many homework grades (if any)
• Driving time to-and-from college
campus
• Miss out on Sequoyah atmosphere &
experiences
Please note: Application Deadlines vary from college
to college and may be sooner than the above form
submission deadline dates
8. HB 444: DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM
UPDATES• Pending Governor Kemp’s signature of the bill, and in consideration of updated program regulations by
GSFC’s Board of Commissioners in May, the provisions of the bill will be effective for Summer term 2020. All
Dual Enrollment (DE) eligibility determinations for coursework in summer 2020, regardless of course start
date, will be subject to the new provisions in HB 444. Approved final program rules are expected in May
2020, but updates on anticipated changes will be posted on GAfutures as they are available.
• A new on-line student application is scheduled for release mid-March 2020 for Summer term 2020 and after.
It will be accessible on Gafutures.org and may be completed by high school and home study students
interested in applying for the dual enrollment program.
Who is eligible to participate in the DE program at a participating postsecondary institution:
• 11th & 12th grade students may take approve DE courses
• 10th grade students may enroll in Career Technical & Agricultural Education courses (CTAE) only
• High Achieving 10th grade students with a SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 26 prior to the term may enroll
in approved DE courses
• 9th grade students are not eligible to participate in the program
What are the limits on state-funded DE:
• Participation/funding is capped at 30 semester or 45 quarter hrs. for all first-time students effective Summer
2020 and beyond
• Students who received DE funding for 18 semester hrs. or less through Spring 2020, the 30 semester hour
funding cap applies
• Students who received DE funding for 19 or more semester hrs. through Spring 2020 may receive an
additional 12 semester hrs.
