How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
The audience
The audience I chose to target are people of the age 16 and upward that are
interested in the genre of electronic music. This audience is generally in the D
to C1 area of the NRS demographic scale and so I aimed the language,
imagery, and other content at the audience.
Language
This audience is generally in the D to C1 area of the NRS demographic
scale and so I chose to not use language that would be too complicated for
the audience to understand but is equally not too simple. I aimed to used
language that is in common usage among the audience that is in relation
the genre and subject of the articles.
For the headlines and headings I used names of artists that would be
recognised by the audience and would have a defined fan base as
opposed to the conventional sensational headline and a following strap line
of mainstream media outlets. This appeals to the niche market that I am
trying to attract by using the artists that they already have an established
fan base for.
Imagery
The model I used for the images in the main article is in the lower bounds of
the target audience I am aiming at. This creates relatability with the audience
to the artist in the magazine.
The images I have used are shots of bands at a concert or portrait shots of
the featured artist. For the images I have made sure that they are of a high
resolution for the main images on the pages and kept a highstandard for
images with the smaller pictures even though a lower resolution would not be
very noticeable. I have used a leading image of the same artist on each page
for continuity.
Social & digital media
In the magazine I have included social media links for connectivity to the
audience as social media plays a big part of the target audience's lives.
The magazine has been designed to be distributed digitally as well physically
which means that file size has had to have been taken into account as well as
the page size. The colours of the text and the images also had to be taken in
to account as some colours do not show up as well in physical form as they
do in a digital format.
