2. INTRODUCTION-
• Injections administration is the act of
administering a sterile solutions, emulsions
especially drug, into a person's body using a
needle and a syringe.
3. SITES FOR INJECTION
ADMINISTRATION
• There are mainly four sites for
injection administration.
1- Subcutaneous
2- Intramuscular
3- Intravenous
4- Intradermal

SUBCUTANEOUS
• A subcutaneous injection is administered as a
bolus into the subcutis, layer of skin directly below
the dermis and epidermis.
OR
Subcutaneous injection means the injection is given
in the fatty tissue, just under the skin.
EXAMPLE- Insulin.
9. INTRAVENOUS
• Intravenous therapy is a medical technique that
delivers fluids, medications, and nutrition directly
into a person's vein.
EXAMPLE- IV Fluids.
11. INTRADERMAL
• Intradermal injection often abbreviated ID, is a
shallow or superficial injection of a substance into
the dermis.
EXAMPLE- Senstivity & Allergy testing.
13. A TRAY
CONTAINING....
• A kidney tray to collect the wet waste.
• A paper bag to collect the dry waste.
• A bowl to keep the cottons balls in.
• A pair of gloves to keep the procedure aseptic.
• A syringe with needle to load the and administer the
medication.
• A tourniquet to visualise the vein while administering
the intravenous.
• A spirit to clean the area before administering the
drug.
• A prescribed medication card.
15. PROCEDURE
Observe
Observe for any bleeding and apply pressure and a dressing if
required.2
Withdraw Withdraw needle smoothly and quickly at a 90 degree angle.
Administer Administer at site which is prescribed by physician.
Clean Clean the skin surface.
Change Change the syringe needle to one of the correct size for the patient.
Remove Remove any air bubbles from the syringe.
Withdraw Withdraw the amount of drug required.
Wash Wash hands and don a sterile gloves.
Ascertain Ascertain any allergies the patient may have.
16. RECORDING
AND
REPORTING...
After doing any procedure record it
with date, time & signature and
report it to the senior staff.
EXAMPLE- Injection Emeset 2ml
administered intravenously at
10:30AM as prescribed by physician.
