3. Play way method is a method which envisages
that all work should be done in the spirit of ‘play’.
Play way is quite different from the normal
meaning of the word “play’ which is considered
as a form of physical activity.
Play way on the other hand is a means of
cognitive and affective development of the child
i.e., development of intellect, skills and feelings.
4. Play way method was developed by
Caldwell Cook. He believed that
proficiency and learning come not
from reading and listening but from
actions, from doing and from
experiences. He regarded Play as a
means of training of individuals and a
wonderful technique of making
school education interesting and
practical.
5. • He asserted, ”Only that child learns
best who learns with interest and
with a purpose and sees the
significance in what he does”.
• Caldwell introduced a new way in
education popularly known as play
way method.

8. ORGANIZING PLAY ACTIVITIES
FOR CHILDREN WITH MR
• MAKE SURE THAT THE ACTIVITIES CHOSEN ARE
AGE APPROPRIATE
• THE PLAY ENVIRONMENT AND METERIALS USED
SHOULD BE CONDUCTIVE TO SPECIFIC
DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE
9. PRE PRIMARY LEVEL
The age range of this group is generally between 3 to 6
years. At this age it is important that children play and
enjoy themselves and hence conduct activities in friendly
and informal atmosphere. Collect a variety of materials
from the environment and make sure that they are
harmless, non toxic and easy for children to handle.
EXAMPLES
Pasting
Finger/hand/foot printing
Coloring and spry painting
Clay modeling and printing with moulds such as leaves
vegitables, cotton or sponge
10. PRIMARY LEVEL
• Activities suitable to this group include
painting
Coloring
making collages
clay modeling
needle work
cutting and pasting
11. SECONDARY AND PRE VOCATIONAL
MAKING GREETING CARDS
GIFT BOX
LATTER PADS
MAKING PAPER CRAFT
RANGOLI
MEHINDI DESIGNS
13. 1. Sensory-Motor development:
Children develop their sensory abilities
and use motor activities in conjunction
with senses. Examples of toys played
during this stage include rattles, mobiles
etc. A baby who is developing the skill of
eye movement enjoys the moving mobile
hanging on his crib. A baby who is learning
and developing his hearing ability loves
rattles
14. 2. Physical development:
Children develop physical abilities like jumping,
balancing, running etc. A baby who is learning how
to balance his body likes balancing toys, skating, etc.
3.Cognitive development:
Cognitive development involves challenges of the
mind and is associated with learning of symbols,
language etc. A child grappling with abstract
principles would enjoy playing with puzzles
15. 4. Social –emotional development:
This development involves the development of
social skills and emotional maturity and is
considered to be a life long development activity.
Children playing pretend play and imagining
themselves to be doctors, father-mother etc. are
actually trying to understand the social realities
and adapting themselves to the same.
17. Playing is the most natural thing in
the world, but what you may not
know is that there's so much more
to it than just having fun.
18. It is through play that your child
will develop:-
•Essential life skills
•Learns, how to interact with peers
and with adults
•Discover creativity
•Adapt and develop new skills
•Learns a whole range of emotions
19. Play has a vital role in your child's
mental and physical development,
and as a parent, you must realize
your responsibility in creating
opportunities for your child to play.
20. Playing facilitates your child's cognitive
development. Play is your child's way
of learning about the world.
When your child hears, sees, touches,
tastes, or smells something, messages
are sent to her brain and important
mental connections are created.
21. Playing games give you the opportunity to
play a major role in your child's
development of social skills, acting as a
guide while she explores appropriate
responses to certain activities and develop
values.
Activities such as rocking your baby, singing
to her, reading, playing and laughing with
her help to shape your child's brain.
22. Child develops motor skills during play.
Games that involve motor skills such as:-
- Rolling over
- crawling and walking
- grasping objects
- drawing
These all improves your child's grasp of these
abilities, helping to prepare her for more
advanced levels of physical activity.
23. Play also helps your child exercise skills in
communication.
Good communication skills are honed during
playtime. Child will learn to tell you how he feels
through facial expressions, gestures, and sounds.
Identifying these expressions verbally by using
simple words such as 'happy,' 'sad,' and 'excited'
will enable your child to associate the words with
his feelings.
26. The following are the Principles:-
1.Learning By Doing
2.Principles of Individual Differences
3.Sympathetic Attitude
27. 1. Learning By Doing:-
Training of five senses makes all round
development in an individual. This principle
involves maximum usage of these senses.
Any knowledge which a child gains through
his head and hands becomes interesting
and purposeful for him. The children
experiment and discover themselves the
required knowledge by means of play way
method.
28. 2. Principle of Individual Differences:-
Play way method takes into account the
individual differences of the learners. Every
individual works according to his
differences in different spheres like
interests, attitudes, sentiments,
capabilities, intelligence level etc. It makes
the learning easy and understandable by
involving every learner according to his
differences.
29. 3. Sympathetic Attitude:-
Play way method develops a congenial
environment in teaching learning process.
It does not create artificial environment or
any compulsion on the learners. Everyone
is free to do and act according to his
interests. Whenever children need
suggestions, they accept them without any
hesitation.
30. • Learning Process to be conducted
through playful activities because they
are recreational and interesting.
•Learning should take place in an
atmosphere of freedom without any
restrains.
HIGHLIGHTS
31. •Teacher’s attitude should be such as to
encourage free expression on the part
of student.
•Enough opportunities should be
provided to children for self-expression
•Children should fully enjoy the learning
process.
32. •Children should be active participants
in it.
•Children should be responsible for their
own progress and development.
•Methods of imparting information
should be informal and natural to suit
the interest and needs of the children.
