2. Hydraulic pump is the heart of hydraulic
system. It converts mechanical energy into
hydraulic energy by pushing the fluid into
system

1) According to principle of operation
a) Hydrostatic type (Positive displacement)
b) Hydrodynamic type (non-Positive
displacement)
2) According to displacement
a) Constant displacement
b) Variable displacement

9. Advantages of gear pump
1. They have few moving parts, hence minimum
wear and tear
2. Simple in design and construction
3. Less expensive.
4. simple in maintenance and repair.
5. No over hung bearing loads.
6. They tolerate move to dirt and contamination
as compared to others

10. Limitations
• They are fixed displacement pumps.
• They are usually low pressure pumps. They work
up to 200 bar.
• Internal leakage increases with increasing wear
in loss of power.
• They made more noise as compared to others.

• Pressure:
Operated up to 150 bar
• Speed:

develop centrifugal force

Pistons are arranged radialy with respect to axis
of rotation.
• Axial Piston:
Pistons are arranged parallel to the axis of
rotation.
