2. HISTORY OF
SIKKIM
The history of Sikkim, begins with
indigenous Lepchas contact with early Tibetan
settlers. Historically, Sikkim was a
sovereign Monarchical State in the
eastern Himalayas. Later a protectorate of India
followed by merger with India and official recognition
as a state of India. Lepchas were the main
inhabitants as well as the Ruler of the land upto
1641. Lepchas are generally considered to be the
first people, indigenous to Sikkim also includes
Darjeeling.
3. GEOGRAPHY OF SIKKIM
• Situated in the Himalayan mountains, the
state of Sikkim is characterised
by mountainous terrain. Almost the entire
state is hilly, with an elevation ranging from
280 metres (920 ft) in the south at the
border with West Bengal to 8,586 metres
(28,169 ft) in northern peaks near Nepal and
Tibet

5. INFRASTUCTURE
OF SIKKIM
• Because of its hilly terrain and poor transport
infrastructure, Sikkim lacks a large-scale
industrial base. Brewing, distilling, tanning and
watchmaking are the main industries and are
mainly located in the southern regions of the state,
primarily in the towns of Melli and Jorethang.
