1. Howard Schatzberg
• Howard Schatzberg is a second-generation
equine photographer. Howie (as most everyone
calls him) has been photographing horses for
over 30 years, following in the footsteps of his
well-known father Jack. Howie began shooting
with his father at the age of 15. The first horse
show Howie shot was a hunter/jumper show in
southern California. Shooting hunters and
jumpers was the beginning of the diversity that
Jack encouraged Howie to maintain.

I enjoy doing it and would love to make money doing what I love.

I like this kind of photography because I love being around horses and I love capturing moments between
people and their horses.
• What makes you stand out as a photographer among your peers?
I stand out because not many people take pictures of horses.
• What important trends do you see in the photographic industry?
Photography is not a growth industry, traditional photography markets will decline drastically and
cameras will get better.
• Tell us some of your weaknesses.
I don’t always know how to tell people to pose.
• How important is technology in your field? How do you plan to implement it?
Very, cameras are getting more and more technical, so I will continue to learn new ways to use them.
• What are your long-range goals?
To make money doing photography.

I have made a decent amount of money and have been published in a few magazines.
